Thing is we got in a new manager in and it certainly was no breathe of fresh air. Hopefully lessons have been learned and whoever comes in are the right fit.
Seeing reports on Instagram that Salisu is leaving the club this summer and has basically given up trying Sorry seen a report of this on Saints Stuff
If true would be a fitting end to a disappointing stint at Saints. He clearly has a lot of potential, but ultimately is just one of many players who let the club down with many poor performances when it mattered.
I see Will Still is still absolutely killing it at Stade Reims. One defeat in twenty games since he took over. Speaks French so would be great for our French-speaking lot. Seeing as we like young players, might as well get a young manager in.
With JWP, ABK and Lavia still having several years to run on their contracts, could we keep them despite relegation, or is that just a complete pipe dream? I guess a lot depends on our financial situation. My gut feeling is that all three of those would be sold, but maybe JWP is one we could potentially persuade to stay for a season. He has young kids and I’ve heard through a friend who knows his family that he’s very settled in the area. He might not want to move them t’North, or even London.
ABK has had quite a few injuries so I would hope we could persuade him to stay on. No way do we keep Lavia, not a effing chance. JWP is such a strange one, I imagine he will have interest., But ultimately its down to him, not sure whether he'd leave or not tbh. Then again that 100k is huge if we don't have a relegation clause in there.
Our best chance of keeping Lavia, is if Man City tell him that they want to buy him back in 2024. Best chance of keeping JWP is if we make a statement with our next managerial hire. Someone like Potter. ABK I think it comes down to other teams not meeting our valuation of him. We will want a lot for him; not sure others will take the risk.
Yeah I agree with all of that. ABK and JWP I think we have an outside chance of keeping, but only if we are ambitious with our new project and stand our ground on valuations/bids. Funnily enough I thought to myself that a way to keep Lavia would be on the promise he goes to City in 2024, but then again, surely they’d want him gaining more PL experience over the next year?
The buyback option is for 2024. So the only way Lavia plays Premier League next year is if City pay over the agreed price, or he goes permanently to another club. (I think)
We have a new manager. He was unable to play any meaningful part in the transfer window, handed a pair of marigolds and asked to clean up with the equipment at hand. I believe he has the club in his DNA and will eventually shape up the squad in a much more pragmatic way. So he already fits, it's the squad that needs the maintenance and I just have a feeling that will come.
Or we loan him to a PL team. Sounds unlikely but can see a scenario where we do that if we want to keep the relationship with City strong for the future. If we sell one of the players with a buyback to one of their rivals at pretty much the first opportunity I don’t think they are going to be too happy and want to do more deals like that again(at least not for any player they deem good enough to want back one day). Depending on how much £ is being offered and how much we want to continue the relationship with City I’m sure we could negotiate something like we loan Lavia to a PL team then City buy him back in the summer for slightly more. Obviously an unlikely scenario but not an impossible one either
He's not quite in the Wesley Hoedt mould but I believe that he thinks he's better than he is and is guilty of being lackadaisical on occasions. He is still young and may yet become a very good defender but he has to apply himself better and keep learning. If it's true that his head is already somewhere else (we've heard that before!) then just try and get as much for him as we can.
Yep, said before, manager is absolute key wrt keeping these players. Selles might have a pull that we don’t know about but I doubt it.
I always come back to CGT’s description of Salisu as “fifty percent of the time he’s Virgil van Dijk, fifty percent of the time he’s Dick van Dyke”. It’s perfect.
This. Lavia I would expect to leave, unless he really has his heart set on a return to City. Salisu will likely go but he hasn't really kicked on from the promise he showed and we're stacked full of CB's who would do a good job in the Championship anyway. KWP will leave but Tino will likely stay due to his injuries. ABK leaving would require a team to offer at least 35mill I would have thought. Worst case scenario is we'll lose 5 important players but more realistically I'd say 3 will leave. I simply cannot see SR selling too many players. I can't see them standing in JWP's way if he wants to leave but the right managerial appointment might convince him to stay. But I do think we will have a squad that should get back to the PL at the first time of asking.
