Away from the whole Sports direct issue..

So, if sources are to be believed, we're very likely to sign Maiga from Sochaux in January. Although I haven't seen him play, I've heard good things about him and he has a great goalscoring record in Ligue 1.

But to me it seems like we're sort of skirting round the fact that he announced he would never play for Sochaux again during the Summer, refused to play against Caen and went missing in an attempt to force the move to the Toon.

The title was an exaggeration, but am I the only one who's uneasy about buying someone like this? I mean, who's to say that in a couple of seasons he might get interest from a 'bigger' club and do the same to us? With the team spirit so high and a real sense of togetherness it just makes me wonder...

    Thoughts?

Ben Arfa did the same thing when he wanted to join us but look at his commitment to us now.

Depends on the situation I guess.

He will be a good signing. The club have done there research and the fat man wont part with the cash unless hes certain hes gonna be a player for us.

So far none.... yes NONE of the signings under Pardew have been bad. All have been good value for money.... I mean that GOOD VALUE.

And if a bigger team come in for him in a couple of years time that will mean HE HAS BEEN A SUCCESS and if he leaves we get a big fat wadge of money. Its a win win situation!

Was told he could join then denied permission to speak to the club? Pretty sure it's similar circumstances.

like the guy from leazes terrace said on that 5live program yesterday signing problem players can work in your favour, if you can change them they may become more loyal to your club

Different circumstances yes, but Ben Arfa did the same thing and we were still happy to sign him.

Also, everyone urges the club to sign more "Carr gems", well Maiga has been extensively scouted and recommended by Carr, so trust him!

Aye, In Carr We Trust. Don't know why I'm not trusting him on this one though. Maybe it's normally because Carr gems are totally unexpected, like Tiote and Cabaye. Come out of nowhere, not a lot of transfer speculation, and BAM they're bloody brilliant. With Maiga there's been a lot of transfer speculation and it feels like it's being dragged out a lot so it seems like a big deal. But he's hardly the caliber of player, at the minute, for any of us to get really excited about..

Just doesn't feel like a Carr gem...

I'm chatting ****. I dunno what I'm on about. The lad'll come good. In Carr We Trust!!!
