Match Preview: Middlesbrough (H) Sunday, April 9th 2023 City return home on Easter Monday as the welcome Michael Carrick's Middlebrough to Ashton Gate (5:30pm). Match Preview sponsor: Your Parking Space Nigel Pearson's men are back in BS3 on Monday just three days after their win on the road over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium - their fifth consecutive victory in Staffordshire. Good Friday's victory will have provided the Robins with a boost in confidence after a run of results which frustrated the group. Three points lifted the Reds into 13th and past the 50-point mark (51) and within sight of last year's points tally of 55 with 18 points still up for grabs. The last meeting between the two sides ended all square on Teeside as Chuba Akpom earned Boro a point at the Riverside after Andi Weimann had put City ahead in the first half. OUR OPPONENTS: MIDDLESBROUGH Since Michael Carrick's arrival in the autumn, Middlesbrough have been one of the form teams in the Championship as they have mounted a serious challenge for promotion to the Premier League. Currently sat in fourth, Boro are finely poised to secure a play-off spot although there is a faint glimmer of hope of an automatic promotion place as they attempt to keep the pressure on Sheffield United who are nine points ahead in second, and Luton Town who are one point above in third. Out of Carrick's 24 games in charge to date, Boro having been on the losing side on just six occasions - two of which have come in recent weeks following back-to-back losses against relegation scrappers Huddersfield Town and Premier League-bound Burnley. I can’t see us overturning Boro on their current form. Mind you, I didn’t expect the win at Stoke, so you never know. That striker of theirs has bagged a lot of goals - I can’t see our defence holding him.
I hope so. But if he can’t it won’t be a reflection on him being poor - plenty of defenders in this league have failed to stop him scoring.
Good open game so far, chances at both ends.. On another day, Cornick could have had 2 and a good save deprived Weimanns attempt
Tanner has to be doing a LOT better as RB, he’s leaving so much space for their LB to get crosses in.
I think Cornick is having a much better game, helping out the defence with the odd chance.. his best game for us by a country mile..
Get in there 1-0 to City after a good first half. Bell on an assist from Cornick so well done the lads - never give up.
Cornick’s best 45 mins in a City shirt by a mile, going forward, and defending. I am still massively concerned by Tanner’s positioning when Boro break, he’s almost setting up like a 3rd CB, leaving far too much space in behind on our right side
DaSilva looks good going forward but frightens the life out of me defending the back post. Max worries me. At times he looks OK but it's his head, never goes where it hurts. Fielding was the same. Keeper's are mad, Max isn't.
