If true I hope we have relegation clauses in the players’ contracts. Or we just give them away to any mugs who want them. Current wages ratio is 125%. Good news is that the money the board pay in to keep the club afloat is counted as income as long as it’s a ‘gift’…..so if they pay loads more in to bring the ratio down we can keep the same brilliant squad! Bad news is solidarity payments, broadcasting income and inevitably sponsorship revenue will all drop by a lot.
A bit late, but Clives preview of the WBA game gives a good insight into being careful what you wish for with regards to the board and the state that the Baggies now find themselves in after a change at the top of the club... https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/59993/it’s-about-ownership-–-preview
I’m not much of a fan of Clive’s writing, though he undoubtedly loves the club, has good access to key players in and around it, asks tough questions and really puts the hours in. But this is a really excellent piece of writing and I hope everyone reads it. No answers of course, but it’s important to understand the Catch 22 we are in regarding ownership (see Clive’s last paragraph).
He definitely got that off his chest… and you can’t argue too much with anything he’s said. A rock and a hard place! We all know that further down the line there has to be some implosion within football. I always thought it would be the EPL but maybe it’s the ‘below the surface’ EFL that will finally crumble through awful leadership, stewardship and rank incompetence. It’s a terrible thought.
An interesting read, although, yet again, Clive's blinkers concerning Warburton are there for all to see. Clive also loves to point out how he knows better than everyone else, habitually rubbishing all other opinions, whilst offering zero solutions himself. However, I realise that our current set up is incredibly difficult to navigate. Getting a better, more knowledge DOF would be a start imo.
