This thread is going to be fantastic after a year of Labour government mind, as the ideologically captured desperately try to defend exactly the same kind of stuff that goes on now because the pile of ****e has a red flag stuck in it rather than a blue one.

What I can't get my head around on here is if you don't want a labour government then you are a tory Boris lover. Thing is I think both parties are a complete train crash and don't want either of them near no10

On the whole we're a pretty well run country, no matter who's in power.

This last couple of years have been exceptionally bad imo.

As much as I despised Thatcher these lot are much, much worse. Thatcher had an ideology (which I disagreed with) but the current bunch are amoral greedy grasping liars out for what they can get.

And apparently government ministers misleading Parliament is routine and acceptable these days.

The Home Office has admitted it has no evidence to back up one of the key justifications for its crackdown on small boat crossings.

As home secretary, Priti Patel, the Tory architect of attempts to tackle Channel crossings, told parliament in 2021 that “70% of individuals on small boats are single men who are effectively economic migrants”.

With the number of boat arrivals continuing to increase, Suella Braverman backed up her predecessor’s assertion in December last year by telling MPs: “There is considerable evidence that people are coming here as economic migrants, illegally.”

However, when asked to respond to a Freedom of Information request for evidence to support Patel’s claim, the Home Office admitted it had none.

A perfect example of populism. Tell the people what they want hear regardless if it is true or not. They have no shame or compunction when caught out either.

'Taken out of context' would be my guess this time ...

... I doubt they can use Covid, Putin or global issues for this one.

Although I suppose Corbyn is in with a chance <laugh>

Exactly my view mate. I have a distrust of both and dont think either are fit to govern. But I am a tory fan boy for questioning Labour according to some. I am going to keep calling Labour out, not because I am a tory, but because they are the opposition party and that gives them a role today in terms of scrutiny. They also are heading into power it seems a year or so from now. I am watching with interest their behaviour and policy announcements because I want a sense of what they will do.

Speaking of no shame. Do you know if the Labour party another of their daily shameful lies today? And has the leader of that party, who is so keen on decency and standards, been heard from yet as to u turn? Been having a wonderful weekend in Stratford upon Avon so might have missed it.

This last few days show far the labour party have fallen. It is rather sad to see. You have front benchers like Thornberry still defending the labour party advert that Sunak doesnt think sex offenders should go to jail. While the likes of David Blunkett is close to despair that is party behave in this way. Baseless, spurious, deeply offensive all words that ring true. Pretty sleazy campaigning I would call it. I only can take solace in the fact that them and the tories might just drag each other so low over the next 12 months enough people find them too distasteful to vote for.
