You're ignoring the player he is and judging him by the striker you want him to be. He had a good game.

I don't think so. He always gets hooked , scores minimal. Because he pressed and works hard doesn't mean he has a good game. Offers minimal threat. Centre backs have an easy ride.

Personally I would bench him and develop our own players. No point persistenting with Gelhardt. Goes back to Leeds anyway.

He’s not the answer. To suggest he's not “doing enough” is unfair because the kid puts in a shift. If you think hes not the answer but should still be scoring goals (if thats what you mean by not doing enough) then i think that’s overly harsh.

There are parts of his game, or performances that warrant criticism (chances v Norwich and Luton) but overall i think it’s harsh to criticise the performances of a young lad being played out of position.

The reference to Ba was to further illustrate that Gelhardt is not a no.9 so expecting him to perform like one is pointless.

the blame for this situation (if you need to apportion blame) lies at the feet of the club who couldn’t or wouldn’t spend money to replace Simms.

It’s a fair point. I’d say he’s making the best of his abilities in an alien position, but yeah might be better playing some of our own players rather than a loanee at this stage

Speaking as a coach, I would sign him if Leeds want to do business. He has lots of natural abilities to work with. Plus his attitude is top class. Last night he was outstanding in my opinion. Best I have seen him play. Much rather him than Simms personally. For me he gets in good positions to score but can fluff his lines. It would be a much more difficult problem to solve if he didnt know the positions he needed to be in. I woulf back myself, as a coach, to make him a better finisher without taking away any of the great stuff he does for the likes of Clarke and Amad.

For me no chance. Simms is a natural finisher. That's want you want as a central point in your attack.

If Gelhardt isn't playing there, does he play ahead of Clark and Roberts ? No for me too.

Seems to be a luxury item.

At one time I'd have been more bothered what happened with Stewart.

But I have faith in the club to keep finding the right players and not just 'a big lad' up front. Some of the best strikers are smaller and leaner than Stewart who's a bit of a throwback imo. His first touch isn't up to PL standard and he doesn't always hit the ball cleanly. He's fluffed quite a few one on one's and he's at an age where he should be fully developed.

He's, no doubt, a very good L1 and Championship player but I don't see many like him in the PL.

Bit of a throwback yeah but extremely effective and he has proven his worth in impact. His goal to minute ratio is top tier. He has moved through the levels with ease.

Injuries are not the only concern for me .

Talking of Lihadji on the other thread, I thought we missed a trick not bringing him on for the last 5. He could have been a decent outlet to get us up the field.

I'd sign him, at the right price and with the intention of playing him as a second striker rather than the focal point. He definitely has something to offer and I'm sure goals will come, but I wouldn't sign him to play as a lone striker.

I don't see who he gets ahead of me. None of our 3 players behing the point of attack.

I think even someone like.broadhead had far more quality and an end product.

I think he'd be an option rather than a starter every week. We don't have Amad next season, he could contribute in the number 10 role when we want more of a second striker than a playmaker.

I agree with you, that if it's a choice I'd rather have Simms.

Who would you play as the number 9 if you drop Gelhardt?

I was probably the only one who didn’t rate Simms that highly, always looked miserable to me as though it was an effort to be here.

It’s probably already been said, but why did we play in red shorts yesterday? Due to work I missed a lot of the pre match ramblings.

I thought the strip looked great with red shorts

He did but could finish every well. Came up clutch multiple times to get some key victories.

Given this Stewart rumour ( yes another one) and in the past I'd have said we can't do without him as our main striker but am changing my tune.
We've been forced to play without him for most of the season but we're up there with our goals total so we're coping in his absence.
I've not changed that he's a cracking CF, loves the high press etc but Smug had mentioned his weaknesses.
What I would be upset about is if he left for another mid table championship club whoever that might be, shows no ambition whatsoever, he might as well stay here.
On the point if he was staying he'd have signed his contract by now so I'm prepared to say my goodbyes and trust that the management are on the case for finding a replacement, perhaps we'll follow the modern model of not playing a central figure up top which is what we've been forced to do this season.
Whilst not demeaning the loss Stewart has been we've suffered just as much losing others for significant parts of the season and as others have said we'd be a lot higher had we not suffered injuries so much.
Just to finish wasn't that 4th goal our fifth end to end goal this season when I'd struggle to remember one per season in the last 10 years. We've got some talent and if Stewart can't see that then more fool him.

If we are to continue with the full team press Simms doesnt fit for me. He doesnt have that mentality. Better finisher yes, but a lot less of an all round game. He doesnt run in behind either like Stewart does.

I am not massively desparate for an out and out number 9 personally. Scoring goals without is not out problem. The fact we dont have one in some ways makes us more difficult to play against. That said, we will sign strikers in the summer. Be interesting to see what type as the rest of the squad doesnt look setup for 2 up front to me.
