What a difference a win makes. These ambitious targets are interesting considering the doom and gloom a week ago after losing to the Blades. The talk then was after taking 2 points out of a possible 12 we were sinking into oblivion, whereas now we're targeting 15 points from our final 6 games.
Just as predicted, Robbie had lots to say before the game with his expert analysis of how terrible we are revelling in the defeatist mindset to try & prove some perverse point that Smith was a genius. Then we pull of one of the most inspiring performances of the season & he's nowhere to be seen. The Doom Goblin has returned to his little hole to somehow spin the result as an xg anomaly.
Having seen the highlights several times now, Robbie is right that Sørensen's through ball did deflect off a defender, but that made it harder for Gibbs as he had to pick up the ball and run with it with two defenders closing in. Had it not been deflected, Sørensen's original pass would have put the ball ahead of Gibbs for him to run on to. The deflection made Gibbs do it the hard way.
Fair enough, GE - 'trying to close in' then! Gibbs did a great job in the new role of the number 10 behind Sargent. He's turning out to be a very talented and versatile player withou much fanfare. The fact that we nicked him out of the Ipswich U18s makes it even better!
Yes, the 5th clean sheet in 14 games away from home against a top 6 team looks pretty good. Smith wouldn't have liked the scoreline either, as he prefers 1-0.
Sometimes they stumble upon a winning formula forced by injuries. I'm guessing Bryan or Warner will be partnering Omobamidele tomorrow
