Got to say, Ric, that's my story almost exactly, except in my case it was my Dad who'd passed away. I've been to a few games since, but it's not the same without him, so I eventually gave up. I'll always be a city fan, but for that reason and the fact I didn't enjoy even the best of my return games, I've given up altogether. Maybe one day... It's just not the same without him.
It was losing to Sunderland under Marco that was the nail in our coffin as far as our fight to stay in the EPL. I never forgave them for that, so I cannot accept anything other than us either winning or at the very least a draw in this one.
I’d drop Ebiowei for Tufan rather than dropping Longman. Yes, Longman looked fairly useless as a striker against Rotherham but I was surprised he got hooked at half-time. You can tell Ebiowei is a talented lad but his attitude and body language is all wrong imo. I understand Rosy likes players he’s previously worked with like Connolly and Ebiowei but the latter just looks like he doesn’t want to be here at all. Even at that open training event on Monday he looked petulant and miserable. Some loan players have really good attitudes and others see loans as work experience they’d rather not do. Troy Deeney was on a podcast not too long ago and he said the best loanees for lower division clubs were Man Utd youngsters as their attitude was always brilliant. Not arrogant, always looking to learn, always getting stuck in and being part of the team even if it’s only for 6 months or a season. Pretty much all of the loanees we’ve had from Man Utd have had great attitudes and we signed a lot on permanent deals because of it like Chester, Evans, Brady etc. Other clubs just don’t have that same ethos for their youngsters and it shows. Too many thinking they don’t have to graft or don’t have anything to learn from the lower divisions as they come from Prem academies with top coaching staff and facilities. I don’t understand Ebiowei’s attitude because he started off at Derby in the Championship. I know Sinik didn’t adjust well to life in England but I’d rather him be getting minutes for us right now than a Crystal Palace loanee who we definitely won’t be signing permanently.
Aye up Saff, I see your lot a predicting a bumper crowd, at least at kick off. As you lot have hell of reputation for filing out way before the end of games, when we play you a few of us have a bit of a side bet on what time that mass exodus will start. Between 15 and 20 minutes before the end seems to be the nap. Do you have any inside knowledge so I can scoop up the kitty?
Excellent post. I've dealt with lots of loan players over the years, albeit in the wrong shaped ball game, and there is a big variation in attitude. Some think they're bigger than the club and doing you a favour, others embrace it and see it as a stepping stone to bigger things or a permanent move. Malcolm appears to be a waste of time. I'd much rather see an academy kid on the bench for the rest of the year and let longman play out wide.

If you are 2 up you’ll be looking at about 80 minutes. 3 up and it will be from about 70 mins. It’s nowhere near as bad now. The club is no longer a basket case and the supporters tend to support the lads and give them a hell of a lot more time because we know they put the effort in every game. Tbf, I was at the Hull 1 Sunderland 4 about 15 year back and when the 3rd goal went in your ground emptied, so…
I think this is an interesting point overall but I don't think there's a body of evidence to support the claim that Ebiowei has a poor attitude. If he did he wouldn't be in Rosenior's good books for a start. I think it's just cultural, he's got a resting gloom face like a lot of Palacey, South London type young lads have. I bet at Palace they wouldn't even notice it because they have Zaha and Eze and so on, of a similar ilk. Our team hasn't been very diverse for quite a while so we're not used to seeing someone look like Malcolm does and it's easy to assume it's a lack of interest or an angst but I don't think it is.
@Chazz Rheinhold are you going to stand for this? https://www.not606.com/threads/sund...ril-2023-ko-17-30.406218/page-2#post-16617887
I predict a tight game, no strikers on the pitch, lots of possession, tick tacky football playing it around at the back then....bang 0-7 City.
I'm inclined to agree with PLT on Ebiowei, I just think that is his natural body language. I've seen improvements in his performance game on-game, and he certainly has the ability.
He linked up well with Coyle last week, I thought him & Traore did nicely with their little through balls, shame we don’t have the players to run onto them.
Long day tomorrow of sport. First the RL Derby then a drive up to Sunderland. Prediction Sun 0 v 1 City.
But so what John? We improve him for Palaces benefit. Let Jarvis get on the bench or another young kid and give them twenty minutes see if they can do it
