This thread is not intended to upset anyone but I was more than a little annoyed at the new policy implemented by the Premier League regarding religious rituals. The pandering has gone too far for me and I had a feeling that eventually something would be done to accommodate this issue after seeing a player allowed to leave the pitch to break his fast during a match I watched a couple of years ago. The laws surrounding the breaking of the fast are not an issue for me but it now seems as if the footballing authorities are going out of their way to make it a spectacle to be seen by one and all, and if it's on the telly then so much the better. Is there any other league in the world that has gone this far to meet the needs of religion during matches or am I just become a moaning old man? The bending of the rules to meet this criteria is not even being done at sunset, as dictated, so I ask the question as to why it can't be done privately at half-time or pre-match? Another question is what are the followers of this practice that are in the stands doing to meet their own fast breaking ritual? Is this all being done in the name of religious correctness or just another wokeism gone mad beyond our acceptance?

As I said I have no problem with anything other than the rapid rate at which the game I love is being turned into something other than what is historically acceptable and I would be interested to see if you think the same and is their a better way to be inclusive?

I don't like or agree with it but it's of no consequence what we think.

    Woke rules.

I think this Woke stuff, if it continues unchecked, will unleash a horrible backlash and release the very demons that it’s trying to contain.

Let’s hope so as it’s gone quite far enough and those behind it need to be punished if they can be identified
It's only ok to use religion for all manner of means, from protecting Grooming Gangs to allowing other faiths to get away with the often toxic Faith Schools. In fact providing it's anything apart from Christianity, it's basically ok and the various authorities will turn a blind eye in case they are called racist.
It’s invaded every aspect of life from Government, British businesses, law & order, the armed forces, education, television, politics and especially the tv commercials

Exercise slows digestion. Why are players breaking their fasting during the game v before?

Because their Ramadan "fasting" can only be broken at the officaisl sunset time of each day and not before.

Apparently, at the moment this is occuring during evening match times.

Still don't see why if they've gone all day fasting, another hour or so until after the game shouldn't make any difference.

lets face it was only a matter of time,as soon as players could not take the pitch without making the sign of the cross, holding his hands up to allah, kissing the grass, or some other gesture then promptly taking a dive in the penalty area,..call me a cynic but...

I can't remember the name of the player but when he came on to the pitch he immediately went to the centre spot and went down on his knees to pray on his own. That was the single point at which I knew the game would change the spotlight to suit the few rather than discuss how their specific religious needs could be handled off the pitch in privacy. Allowing this new mandate to put religions, other than the traditional home grown faiths, as part of the sport is an insult to many who believe that personal choices have no part in the sport. We have enough troubling issues in the game of football, especially the rampant abhorrent racial abuse of players, to sort out before we allow religious shows of faith to muddy the waters. Hatred is such a terrible force and how long is it before we have more violence entering matches because of religious intolerance during games?

sums up current British life perfectly
It’s simply not for the vast majority
In our obscene quest to appease literally everyone else, the tax paying, law abiding (generally) public are quashed by minorities from sexual orientation to religion
And have to say that the Church of England have been instrumental and party to a lot of it

Not for all the Ramadan sects - some vary and their official sunset times are an hour or so later.

Me too but I heard they don't eat, drink or have sex before sunset during Pandadan - no wonder there's not many about.

rumour has it an athletics running race was stopped with a lap to go ... the pacemaker who had dropped back came through and won! ...

Why dont we see hundreds of cars stopped on motorways with a family or individual breaking fast at the moment of sunset? Who determines the sunset at the pitch being played on? for instance a team playing at West ham or team at Fulham or a team at Wolves or a team at Newcastle .. the ref, the player, the FA the weatherman on his early evening weather forcast?
there are charts that give most times for most large towns etc .............. Is this the baseline ? KO at 1945 sunset at 1955 so take a break at 1955 player nips off the field to dug out eats a bite size mars bar and at 1956 back on pitch! or say sunset at 2002 so KO delayed by 10 mins so players can wolf down a bowl of spiced rice or whatever dish they choose to!

MAYBE though they should not be playing on an empty stomach so during Ramadan they should be on the bench able to eat their quota and be subbed on if needed after sunset!

A not all, and the game gets stopped for all. There is no obvious physiological need to consume energy gels (?). Football is not cycling, or marathon running where the body cannot store enough carbohydrates for the activity.

I'm not arguinng with your principles, just correcting your earlier assumption about a universal sunset time for all.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a complete farce stopping a game for that purpose.
