Can we finally admit that we need better than Burn at LB?

Quite the reach is that Tash. They've different skill sets, certainly, but I'm not aligned with Schar being clearly better than Botman.

    TL;DR -

Botman is the better prospect, Schar is better now, but obviously he's 8 years old than Botman so that is understandable. He has more experience.

Schar is more likely to bang one in from 30 yds. That's it IMO.
Botman's reading of and anticipation of the game, which breaks things up and sets us on our way is better than Schar's. He also regularly slides brilliant passes into the midfield and his long passing is excellent, as is Schar's.

Be boring if we all agreed.

He’s like Albert. Everyone rated him as a defender because of his goals when in fact he was bang average

It's not just about Schar's goal threat, his passing and dribbling on the ball is clearly better.

The Man City situation, when previous crowd favourites like Richards, Bellamy, Lescott, Ireland, Wright-Phillips blah blah, were gradually phased out as their team became full of the likes of Silva, Aguero, Kompany, Yaya Toure etc.

It was a gradual process for them and it'll be the same for us, previous fringe first team players and now on their way out - Fraser, Hendrick, Manq, Clark, Ritchie, Dummett, Hayden, Lewis etc...and now the previous first team players will become the fringe players - Schar, Laecelles, Longstaff, Murphy, Targett, Burn etc, then these will be the next ones to leave.

Doesn't matter how many times you state that it's clear to you that Schar is better than Botman - I won't agree with you. They're centre backs. They have different skill sets, but as ball playing centre backs, Schar isn't clearly better than Botman based on all the evidence that I've seen.

You see what you see when you watch a game, and I see what I see. We both form our opinions around what we see and learn. @Albert's Chip Shop might agree with you.

FWIW I think Botman is the better of the 2 now. They both have a mistake in them, Botman went to sleep for that goal last night for example. To make out Schar is a better defender isn't correct in my view. For years I have thought Schar may make a better number 6 than a defender, but truth being told, his dribbling would be **** compared to proper midfielders.

Defence requires a good reading of the game, bravery, marking, being good at tackling and having an ability to see passes and cut them out. Botman is streets ahead of Schar in defensive capabilities.

I don't want to see my centre back trying to take on players going on massive runs. It's a risky move and causes issues when they get tackled or **** up the pass.

Schar will make a hell of a back up centre back, and could see that being a prime position to be upgraded first in the summer.

I must say I see no evidence that Botman is a great ball playing CB, nor does he offer much to our attack.

Almost every good ball up the pitch I see from the back is either coming from Trippier or Schar.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Burn was not to blame for the goal we conceded it was botman , but you fancy him more so I guess that can just be ignored.

Burn had a tough time, but over the season not many have got much change out of him.

Ultimately newcastle have a great defence, so there's no urgent need to fix something that's not broken imo.

I think they complement each other. We cannot complain about our defence. We have the 2nd best defence in europes top 5 leagues.

Yes Dan Burn can get skinned.

    But we are amazing.

Schar has been the more consistent of the two.. Botman is still young though.

    I don't care who's best they're brilliant as a pair.

Are you talking about Burn or Chippy here? Just want to clarify that point.
