Fair do’s, I’ll be voting Labour. I like what the Greens stand for but I don’t mind Starmer too much. Sure there may be better party leaders but he’s certainly more suitable than the clowns who are running the country.
I think we just need to see a bit more from them. At the moment they're relying on not being the Tories to get them through. Where's the vision he can sell?
It's almost impossible to tell who'll be a good PM tbh ... ... Johnson won a landslide and was useless, Truss was voted in, by the 'intelligentsia', and was worse than useless. Sunak's there because he was what was left and didn't seem to be many people's first choice. I don't think we'll have a clue about Starmer, as a potential PM, until the next election starts.
Frightening isn’t it. There were never feelings like this in the 60s 70s and 80s against Mp’s, you at east felt most were competent if nothing else.
Tbh Sunak worked in couple of merchant banks here and in the states, ie worked for a living. His wife is very rich.... little Rishi cannot be bribed. He seems bright and efficient. Starmer has done a relative "rags to riches: story and being the head of public prosecutions, has also done a real job and worked for a living. Imho to do what he has done he "has balls", but clever with it. If you think back to Thatcher, not many of our PMs have actually done a real job. The ones before Thatcher often had served in WW2. So for first time in decades we have a couple of leaders who have done stuff before coming leaders.
Unfortunately we're now well into the bullshit generation. More and more people just fronting it out without any deep knowledge or understanding. Even in 'proper jobs'. That's why we're seeing more and more ****ups generally.
I'm married to a wonderful, caring, thoughtful Scottish lady. However, she would murder me and bury me in the garden without a second thought if I spent a hundred grand without telling her.
Folk on here thought she was doing a grand job for Scotland. Her and her fella have always been scummy dodgy bastards.
Her giving it the holier than thou act makes it all the sweeter. Boris is a scumbag? Yes. He never pretended otherwise.
That’s the thing with how Labour are playing it. Ultra-cautious so they don’t alienate any voters. What are their policies? It’s more like like Labour are saying to the public ‘what do you want our policies to be?’
Starmer seems to have very little of substance to say in my opinion. Waiting to walk into power because the current lot have made themselves unelectable is hardly inspiring of any hope for the future. Yet that does seem their plan at the moment, keep shouting about the tories and hope that is enough. The mood music in the media is changing though I sense. More are starting to look beneath the sound bites Starmer gives and asking what is it his party really has to offer the country. This against a backdrop of Sunak making things happen and improvements being seen. There has been quite the thing made this week of Starmers 3 years in the hot seat and his 12 slogans to supposedly articulate his vision in that time. Yep 12 by all accounts! All pretty unforgettable I suggest, and those that do stick out he has pinched from the likes of Hilary Clinton. After 3 years you would expect to have a bit more clarity about what we can expect. He has a massive lead so can be bold and clear in his vision. Makes you wonder why he isnt doesnt it. If I were him I would be all over the green commitments they unveiled recently. That has the potential to really be something the country can buy into. But it seems to be juat sat on the shelf gathering dust. Imagine if Labour dont win a massive majority from this position, because of a lack of clarity of ambition. It would be a big political failure in my opinion. The next 3 months needs to see much more from Starmer the future PM in my opinion. If times continues to slide by without any meaningful vision then a 20 point lead may become a 15 point lead and so on if the media decide there isnt much beneath the surface. The tories know how to run an election campaign, Labour may have forgotten, the last thing they need is going into a campaign with a single figure lead in my opinion.
Which is exactly what the Tories did. Loads of them changed from being fanatically anti-Brexit to fanatically pro-Brexit when it suited them. The greatest change in our great country for decades was decided on whims and self interest. Even Tory Prime Ministers changed their profoundly held positions if it meant retaining their seat ... ... but they want Starmer to spell out every detail of what he'll do when he inherits this chaos from the Boris/Truss/Sunak coalition.
I think there'll be plenty of people (right leaning media especially) that are waiting for Starmer to announce a policy that they can spin to be "woke" and attack with their propaganda. "Give them enough rope" seems to be Starmer's strategy and it's gotten him this far. Whether it gets him any further remains to be seen. Win first and talk about policy later is a well trodden strategy. Whether it's transparent and positive for voters is a valid question but I think it's increasingly difficult to win a fair fight and Starmer is being cautious not to give the opposition any open goals.
