Russia has taken the presidency of the UN Security Council despite Ukraine urging members to block the move. Each of the Council's 15 members take the presidency for a month, on a rotating pattern. The last time Russia had the presidency. Feb 2022, it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It means the Security Council is being led by a country whose President is subject to an international arrest warrant for alleged war crimes. BBC News...1/4/2023. There must be a saying that fits the bill......all I can think of at the moment is that it is a case of the fox being in charge of the hen coop.
The world is a cynical place Plym. I was listening to Jeremy Bowen on Radio 4 yesterday morning talking about whether Putin and others would ever be prosecuted for war crimes. He knows what he’s talking about: he testified against sundry offenders after the Balkan civil war. He mentioned that the Americans have surveillance data that would for example prove whether Russia had targeted civilian infrastructure or moved children across the border. They were unlikely to release it though because they’d then be under pressure to do the same in relation to their own activities in Afghanistan and Iraq……
Just a flavour of todays mad world on the front of todays Sunday Telegraph...2/4/2023. 1.....STAFF CAN SUE THEIR BOSS IF CUSTOMERS OFFEND THEM. Rishi Sunak is facing a Tory revolt over "draconian" laws that will allow shop assistants, bar staff and doctors to sue their employers if a member of the public offends them at work. New harrassment rules on the brink of becoming law will enable medics to sue the NHS if a patient insults them, allow bar staff to take legal action against landlords if they are offended by drunk punters, and baristas to take a coffee shop owners to a tribunal if they overhear offensive remarks made by a customer. 2.....COWS WILL GET FLATULENCE BLOCKERS SO UK HIT NET ZERO GOAL. All dairy cows will be given "methane suppressants" to stop them expelling so much under government net zero plans. Ministers are intending to force farmers to give their livestock "compound feeds" that contain additives to reduce digestive gas. Now I've checked the date......and yes ...yesterday was APRIL FOOLS DAY ....and today is April 2nd....??
Anyone who reads newspapers has to live with April fools day everyday. Anyone who believes anything they read deserves to. The rag was printed on the first........
Donald Trumps supporters are comparing him going in front of the court today with Jesus Christ going before Pontius Pilate ? This man and his supporters are so dangerous. Just imagine him getting re-elected as President......Trump and Putin pulling the strings of world affairs.....Armageddon here we come.
I'd bet a shed load of people on coaches at Dover have mentioned Boris more than once. Apparently though their plight has nothing to do with Brexit. Now as a person who has gone through Dover on a coach dozens of times I can tell you that pre Brexit a whole coach load of people passed the barriers into France in around 15 minutes. They used to get on the coach and walk the length just looking at one page of the passport that the people had opened for them. Now they have to check every passport individually not only for identity but to ensure the holder had not overspent on the days allowed in the EU which meant every page in the passport and then stamp it. Approx 2 minutes (if they were actually trying) per customer times 51 people on a coach = 102 minutes. I would just love somebody to explain to me exactly which bit of part 2 isn't because of Brexit. Then again if all those people didn't try to go on holiday at the same time during a holiday period then of course there would be no problem. Who said that. The Home Secretary of course who hasn't gotten anything right so far in her job and cost us best part of a Billion squid to boot.
Crossing the channel from France has never been easier.....in fact the gendarmerie will even help you by pushing your dingy on its way.
Never mind, we've signed up to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. That will add a minuscule 0.08% to GDP over 10 years. The difficulties faced by tourists are similar to the inevitable barriers faced by exporters and importers of goods, which contribute to the 5.5% loss of GDP due to leaving the EU This gnat of a thing is nevertheless the biggest trade deal we've signed since Brexit. We still have no trade deal with the USA.
Donald Trump has spent millions hiding 'bodies' in so many places that the Mafia have made him an honorary member .....and have bought the rights to his next....'I do it my way'.... book launch. Boris is a pussey cat compared with this man....whose supporters worship every word and everything this man lies about continually. Putin feels he can do business with this man....because they have so much in common.
They have a dangerous similarity which exacerbates the polarisation of politics across the world. They are both demagogues. All prejudice and hot air and no factual content.
The problem with Putins' 'hot air' is that it is killing people....making them homeless and destroying the infrastructure of Europes largest land mass Ukraine. The worry is that his advance has stalled...and he is using literally untrained enlisted troops as cannon fodder in Bakhmut.....the question is will his cannon fodder outlast Ukraines' ammunition availability........Russian loses have been literally beyond counting during this longest battle for a pointless landmark. With Putin's "special operation" in Ukraine only being mentioned on page eleven of todays paper we could be meeting a cross-road here.......will there be a coup in the near future. Yevgeny Prigozhin the leader of the Wagner group.....basically a private army....has shown opposition to how Putin is running this war.....plus the internal fighting inside Russia...which they are trying to blame on Ukraine....this is the killing of Vladlen Tatarsky the military blogger. The worry is... be careful what you ask for.....the overthrow of Putin....could bring forth a monster that makes Putin look quite liberal in his actions. With Finland joining NATO yesterday...Russia find that their border with NATO has increased by over 800 miles.....the complete opposite of what Putin was trying to achieve......the real hardliners in Moscow might be thinking that Putin is no longer the man they thought he was.....entrance maybe Prigozhin or some other megalomaniac that has been KGB trained.
So you lot in Plymouth live only 24.5 miles from the most expensive seaside town in the UK. It has overtaken Sandbanks in Dorset recently....in fact seven out of ten of the most expensive seaside towns in the UK are in Devon and Cornwall. The cheapest seaside town in the UK is Greenock in Scotland....cost of a property...£97,608. So where is this seaside town....where the average price of property is £1.2 million........SALCOMBE.
When I was a lad, I had school friends whose families fished from and lived in Mevagissey. If you were local, you could get a few fresh mackerel off the quay for free. If you were in the Ship Inn most nights perhaps, but certainly on Fridays and Saturdays, the fishermen would start to sing at about 9:30. There were real shops selling groceries, meat and fresh baked bread. It's a characterless ghost town in the winter now and an overcrowded mess strewn with fish & chip waste in the summer. The shops all sell cheap trinkets and similar tat. All of what were once fisherman's cottages are now holiday lets, empty for two thirds of the year. So no, I don't have a second home. Second homes and holiday lets should require planning permission, with the requirement applied retrospectively to those already in operation. They destroy communities.
Football Manager....Division 1...most valuable players. 1.....Shola Shoretire.....Bolton......................£35million. 2.....Conor Bradley.....Bolton........................£28million. 3.....Carl Rushworth.....Lincoln.....................£16million. 4.....Dane Scarlett.....Portsmouth................£11milion. 5.....Jay Stansfield.....Exeter..........................£11million. 6.....Ryan Astley.....Accrington.....................£11million. 7.....Bali Mumba.....Plymouth......................£10million. 8.....Finn Azaz.....Plymouth...........................£10million. 9.....Harvey White.....Derby..........................£10million. 10.....Jamie Cumming.....MK Dons..............£10million. 11.....Lewis Gibson.....Bristol R....................£9million. 12.....Luke Mbete.....Bolton.........................£9million. 13.....Nigel Lonwijk.....Plymouth.................£8million. 14.....James Trafford.....Bolton....................£8million. 15.....Jason Knight.....Derby.........................£8million. 16.....Gavin Kilkenny.....Charlton................£8million. 17.....Di'shon Bernard.....Portsmouth.......£7million 18.....Max Bird.....Derby...............................£7million. 19.....Louie.Sibley.....Derby..........................£6million. 20.....Jay Matete.....Plymouth......................£6million. I've never been interested in playing Football Manager.....so i don't no how they value players......but I do question how trhey value Nigel Lonwijk at £8million. Argyle have four on the list...all loanees' of course....Bolton have three...two of them the most valuable....and Derby have four as well. I assume Michael Cooper isn't on the list because he is injured and not playing......I wonder if any other Argyle player is near the top twenty.....Scarr maybe ?
