Basically anything that intoxicates is banned in Islam. some would go as far as saying tobacco The fact that some people do it or tolerate it is against Islam I can only give an opinion to why this is, and imo this is dowwn to the alcohol is haraam verses being more prominant and there being more of them that is no justification for those involved in drugs. Its still wrong Opium is a funny one in some ways. As the poppy is used for medicinal drugs too and have often wondered if its growing in afghanistan and eventual usage were linked(from a government perspective), or whether they didnt see themselves as liable with regards to what people did with it Its like barly malt and hops for beer. where do I as say a muslim country become responsible for growing it/selling it
