No it would be like a kid complaining that his parents paid a **** tonne to redecorate his room, (not for his benefit but because they think its going to add value to the house in a couple of years time) but all they've done is brought cheap crap off aliexpress which has made the room look ****e, and none of his friends want to play there now. You have no substance behind your claims that they will "sort it" other than sheer wishful thinking. All evidence points to them ****ing everything they've done up, why would our championship campaign be any different? Why wouldn't fans be slagging them off? Why wouldn't fans be furious with this season? This refusal to see this relegation as anything other than a positive is bizarre. **** peoples jobs, **** what it brings to the city, we'll just pretend we're going to storm the league next year because reasons?
Nice analogy But, "people's jobs"? What's that all about? It's not a refusal to see the relegation as anything but positive. You're just twisting words there. Of course it's bad. But that doesn't mean we all have to completely lose our sh*t and moan constantly.
What a well run club. Although I suppose Walcott has a lot to do with being a free transfer and Aribo was signed with the intention of him being a nailed on starter, I have no idea what happened there as he started off well too. Djenepo and Elyounoussi, there is no excuse for those.
Willy is on £2m a year for training with the club and sometimes sitting on the bench and playing a game or two when we're really, really short.
To me it appears there is a losing mentality ingrained in the club - in the last few years, we've changed the coaching staff, manager, owner, recruitment - you name it we've swept it clean, we've spent a fair bit on players recently and we still lose 1-0 (a lot) and apart from possibly two game we literally have no fight, no spirit in the team, there seems to be a huge problem of the first team coaching and playing staff being able to learn anything from previous mistakes - we keep repeating them. Having had a good 'old man yelling at the clouds' session I am at a loss what to suggest to get a winning mentality going at the club, from top to bottom. I am not convinced that a spell in the Championship is going to change much. We seem to be on the same trajectory Sunderland was on when they went down, a club that was poor at the very core and it has taken them a while to get back to a somewhat even keel. I hope I'm wrong but this looks like it is going to be.....difficult. Still we all have some properly serious stuff going on in our lives I'm sure, so let the millionaire players and football geniuses running the club sort it out I guess?
Just on my way to hospital for a major check up because I have found myself agreeing with some of Lincolns points. .
Stewards, catering staff, programme sellers, club shop, concourse staff etc, and thats just at the club! The wider economy is also hit, the players will be fine. When your average attendance drops by 10k do you think the club keeps these people on? I lost my job in 2005, it was only a match day job but it meant something to me.
Our average home attendance this season is 27,764. In our Championship promotion season, the average attendance was 26,420. And in the Championship you get four extra home games of course. So not a massive difference really. Can't see why too many people would lose their jobs. And if one is relying on an average-sized football club, precariously punching above its weight, as one's primary source of income, then that's maybe not the smartest move.
Average attendance in 04/05 was 23k. In 08/09 17k. So yes, following bad seasons, attendance does drop. Your last comment is ****ing disgusting. How's life on the Tory back benches?
What I love is that when a country goes through issues, there is more civil unrest. When Saints are crap, there is more forum unrest
Get a grip. It's a statement of fact. Some industries are not as reliable as others. Get over yourself. EDIT: Also, nice cherry-picking. 08/09 just happened to be the year we got relegated from the Championship. So no wonder attendances were down. Seasons before that weren't that much worse than they are now.
We haven't fared too well against lower league teams this year, no I know this is supposed to be a positive thread, but not so sure we will smash it. We seem to have been in decline for a long time, not so sure it will be that easy getting the winning mentality when we are likely to lose our better players (Lavia, KWP, JWP)
One of the things Ruben said when he took the job, was that there was no time to implement new patterns etc, hence why he reverted back to the Ralph playbook. Now, this may be bollocks, but it will be interesting to see what he comes up with, after a full pre-season, with a changed squad of players that have a very defined goal.
And there's a pretty well-defined squad here. Young, fast and direct, with the option of a battering ram in Onuachu. Selles has prioritized solidity over deploying it (though I wonder if that's about to change, given that our only shot at survival is to swing for the fences), but in the Championship I'd imagine those players will take center stage, by necessity.
I would hope that next season, if in the championship, we will see the introduction of some of our talented youth players into the first team squad, such as Doyle, Ballard and Dibling to name just three. Time on the bench if not immediately ready would be good for them.
Definitely some positives to championship football. We will win more games, a bit of variety with away days and best of all no ****ing VAR. Losing JWP will be the overwhelming negative. He should be a club legend but has been let down badly by our recruitment strategy basically since Puel left. So many weird signings and dodgy contracts in that time. Also don't understand the love for Che. I see lots of people mentioning our 1-0 defeats. Under Ralph he missed a sitter in every single one of those tight games during our bad run and his attitude was ****ing awful.. Here is a twitter thread of Che missing complete sitters in games we lost by one goal. We will come straight back though I reckon. Burnley have absolutely battered the championship this year and we are far stronger than they were last season.
All I can say is if they didn’t want to come round and play because of your room, they weren’t real friends.
Burnley reached 35 points last season, so we're hardly far stronger. To be fair though, I don't think our points tally is exactly a fair representation of our ability, because Jones made us look so much worse. The reason for Burnley's success is much more likely down to the fact that they have spent twice as much as anyone else in that division this season. They were able to do this because they sold some of their more expensive players. But by the looks of things we will make more than double what they made. They sold; Cornet - 17.5m McNeil - 20m Collins - 20m Pope - 10m About 80m there. We will get that for Lavia and JWP alone, then there's KWP, Salisu, Adams, who should all go for around 20m, if not more. We will effectively have Man City's spending power in the Championship.
