this is taken from SkySports IS FERGIE THE BIGGEST LOSER? Dear Martin. People have been talking all week about Sir Alex Ferguson's amazing record and we can't dispute that, but it occurred to me that he must have lost more games than any other Premier League manager - simply because he's been around for so long. Surely nobody else can have lost more because they would have been sacked! Am I right? Frank (Everton fan) MARTIN SAYS: Since the start of the Premier League in 1992/93, Sir Alex Ferguson has lost 105 matches but even though he has been around for far longer than anybody else there are eight other managers with more defeats to their names. The man who has lost the most, by far, is Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp. Taking into account his spells at West Ham, Southampton, Portsmouth and Tottenham he has lost 205 matches, which is 70 more than the next man on the list, Alan Curbishley, who lost 135 games in charge of Chalrton and West Ham. Curbishley's tally could soon be overtaken by Sunderland manager Steve Bruce. Sir Alex Ferguson inflicted the 132nd Premier League defeat of his former defender's coaching career on Saturday. Managers with the most defeats in Premier League history: Harry Redknapp (205) Alan Curbishley (135) Steve Bruce (132) Sam Allardyce, David Moyes (118) Joe Kinnear (113) Gordon Strachan (109) Graeme Souness (108) Sir Alex Ferguson (105) Bryan Robson (100) Glenn Hoddle (99) Arsene Wenger (97) George Graham (95) Peter Reid (94) Martin O'Neill (92) Joe Royle (89) Kevin Keegan (86) Mark Hughes (81) Ron Atkinson, David O'Leary, Jim Smith (79) ************************************************ Not a great record for Mr Bruce is it???
Interestingly, Martin O Neill (who some fans here still dont want) has only lost 92 games in 20 years as a manager. Bruce who they want has lost 132 in 12 years? Peter Reids is a good record too if you consider that probably 20+ of those losses came when he was at happless Plymouth in the last 2 years. I'd take Reid or O Neill over Bruce in a flash personally.
You serious? Reid initially put a great team together and had no clue how to build upon it or even maintain it. He also left us in financial ****. I think Wenger is the most most impressive stat there.
The article is only referring to PREMIERSHIP games. Reid has lost over 200 games during his managerial career.
I'm thinking of managers that A) we could attract B) could do the job C) wouldnt cost the earth to appoint D) could start tomorrow putting this mess right Wenger's stats are fantastic - he wont be our next manager. O Neill could be and for that matter, so could Reid. After all, didnt Reid come in after the last mess we were in and had 7 games to save ourt season. At the rate we are going, its going to take a mammoth effort of this nature to save us from relegation again this season and the mess Bruce is very quickly getting us into. Commeth the hour, commeth the man because before too long, we will be beggars with very little choices for us left to make.
