Mine was literally seconds. Coming home from Pontefract races a few years ago with the Brother in Law, travelling back home down the M1, all of a sudden we just saw every car in front, brake lights come on. So we slowed down & came to a standstill, didn't move at all, then all of a sudden, you just heard the sirens. God knows how many Police, Ambulance & Fire Engines came whizzing down the hard shoulder, but it seemed like a never ending line. About 10-15 mins after that, about 3 helicopters appeared & landed about 6-7 hundred yards down the road, on the actual Motorway. So obviously people rightly presumed there was a major Motorway incident, & just casually started to walk around , some even walked to the scene, then came back reporting a massive pile up had occured. 6 hours we all sat there on the motorway, before traffic flow was resumed. So taking everything into account, the accident happened probably about 350-500 yards away, we were travelling about 70-75 mph, we were literally about 4-7 seconds away. Anyone else been that close to death? And before any **** says anything, yes i have spelled death wrong in the title.
The IRA almost got me too. I was working in London during their final bombing campaign. They aborted their target and dumped the bomb in a bin I walked past twice a day. It went off about an hour after I had gone past.
When I was kid I plugged a fuse back into a live electricty box in my old house. I got the house voltage run through me then throw me about 10 foot, it was unplugged as my neighbour was working on our kitchen plug socket so he could have got it as well! Gambol, sounds like final destination!
Not told anyone this before but I died on the operating table and was clinically dead for five minutes. Complications with the operation. For those 5 minutes i was in limbo, almost dreamtime. There were lights beckoning me and everything was in slow motion. I followed the lights instinctively wondering is this really my chance with God? Then I heard voices, but not human. Before i "came back" there was a pain in my anus and I saw a long spindly arm retrieving what appeared to be some sort of probe. Read into that what you will.
You've reminded me when I cut through a live electric cable. I was throwing out an old VCR and the cable went through the back of the unit into the wall. Easiest thing to do was cut it. I forgot to unplug it or even switch it off at the wall. The wire cutters were insulated so all that happened was a loud bang. And me ****ting myself. In fact, I'm now beginning to think that sumbdy is looking out for me. I shouldny have survived this long.
I probably had about a dozen close shaves with the IRA, closest was when they blew up the toilets at London Bridge station, I was on the rattler leaving the platform when the bomb went off but in 3rd carriage and it was the rear carriages that took the brunt. I was also on the Cannon St train that didn't stop - remember the junkie driver who was all spaced out at 8am and let the train go through the buffers at 40mph ? Killed a few people and plenty got seriously hurt, I was in the middle of the train and got away with a headache and a bruise to my face from a flying briefcase.....
When I was 7 I fell 35 feet down a steep bank in Calderglen Country Park into the river, when the alarm was raised I ran away and hid, it took 6 hours for the Rangers (bastards) and paramedics too find me. I was OK nothing serious cuts and brusies. They just don't make folk as hard as me anymore.
