same on the other side as well. they are supposed to get tight on their own men but trent doesn't even do that.
It's not the same on the other side. Happens occasionally (to be expected) but nowhere near as much. What's the options? Keep the FBs in defensible positions? No thanks! Play three CBs? Certainly not! Sort the midfield out so it's got energy and leg's again? Yes! Tell the FBs to hug the line? Yes! Play deeper? No!
People have been saying we've been found out since the first loss after a winning run under Klopp. (Loss away to city Jan 2019) It's a catchy little phrase that doesn't describe what's actually happening.
close the gaps. block crosses don't let people play balls when they feel like. realise tackling is allowed in the prem and go in and hit people. there's far too big a gap between cbs. way way way too big. they need to support each other. no 6 needs to stop going forward and park himself. whoever that is. staying high is fine, no issue. we have to do it. full backs cannot both lash on, they have to be able to press and close from half way. not rw slot and shouldn't be near no 10 slot etc. stay wide as you say. forwards need to actually press. midfielders *2 need to close channels and compress play.
Agreed. Football is a simple game and tactics only tend to change slightly. A 433 and 451 is only a few years in difference for example.
One thing we could do is some 'tactical' fouling as Rodri did/does for Man City. Of course we'd have to get close to an opponent first. And get Robertson to work on his crossing. It is just as hit and miss as when he arrived.
No its not, if you want to continue with the frankly infuriating high press, then trent pushes up, you can't press high and have your back four stood in a line defending as well. It worked previously because it was an incredibly well oiled machine with every player at the top of there game. So youve got two choices buy a new 7/8 players every few seasons that are top quality and can fit in exactly where you want them to ( the city approach) Or change your tactics to suit the players you've got. Actually there us a 3rd choice, do what we've done and do neither until it falls apart.
Never said Trent should stay in a back four line (and if you'd continued reading you'd have seen that) but he needs to stay on the right rather than wondering about playing CAM, striker, free role, LW, etc as he's been doing. Stay on the right and do what made you a household name! It would actually give him more space too, hence how he's got so many assists in the past but they've dried up now he's wondering elsewhere. In previous season, the FBs provided the width, Bobby dropped into the hole and Salah & Mane were inverted wingers. Now, the two wingers stay wide (Salah having less impact because of this), the FBs are free to roam and we play with a focal point upfront. It's not the same tactics as before. PS .. I'm aware of the irony in the highlighted btw
We're not exactly flowing with options at RB if Trent isn't there. We've got that Scottish kid who may make the step up and we've got the legendary Milner. Oh and Joe Gomez if we consider him a RB. Not many more options.
Said that too. I love Trent but he needs a kick up the arse (for his half hearted attitude) and competition for his place wouldn't hurt. I don't blame Trent for the wondering about though, I think Klopp wants him to wonder.
BTW- you said earlier you wouldn't want to play 3CB. I think it would suit our existing team better to play LF ------ CF ----- RF ------ CM CM ----- LWB ---------- RWB --- CB CB CB --- -------- GK ---------- Suits the players we actually have on hand. As one wingback runs forward and gets out traditional defensive role, we still have four defenders at the back. If Trent gets forward, the RCB moves over to the side to fill his hole. (oops... phrasing) Fewer holes, plenty of width, the defensive roles suit our existing full backs better. Only two CM roles to fill each game (which is a challenge to find fit players for this season). It's fitting the formation to the squad we have, rather than the squad we wished we had.
Yeah this. There are people (often in the media) saying that Trent is always out of position. That just doesn't sound right. If he was constantly out of position Klopp would bench him. He's clearly told to play where he is playing and opposition are targeting that space. We need to do more to defend that line of attack.
I'm sure Liverpool.will have another c*** season in 2023-24 and only win the Caribou and a European trophy.
thoughts on this system/transfers please alisson ramsay konate vvd Robertson trent macallister salah Mount diaz nunez jota, gakpo, Elliott, fabinho, all in reserve here. that's 2 buys and a total chance in outlook and system obviously buying an rb will be the next comment but there you go.
I quite like the look of that. As you say rb may be an issue, it's difficult to say, but Ramsey is very highly rated. We coukd certainly do with making more use of the plethora of forwards we've got.
Second 11 Kelleher Milner gomez matip tsimi Fab bajectic Harvey gakpo doak Jota Which doesn't actually look to bad. Or henderson could sit in and fab could go right back I suppose, but there's options.
TBF, that looks alright. Need a better RB as you say, I think we could do better than Mount too, much better. Best bit is Trent becoming the new Xabi Alonso! Never going to happen though, we won't change from 433
