Match of the Day viewing figures up by 500,000 Let's bring you some viewing figures which we've just been made aware of from our entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba. He tweets: "Last night's Match of the Day was watched by 2.58m TV viewers on BBC One. "Up nearly half a million on last Saturday's figure of 2.09 million according to BARB overnights. "It's the show's biggest audience since 5 November 2022 when 2.63m watched."
maybe the way forward is no presenters just football action shows how much chatter is in it???? When you think GL is paid over £1m a year to do a show that is watched by circa 2m people then you have 2 or 3 other high profile and guest presenters thats a lot of money for what is primarily a 36 week programme? Getting up to date with all the overnight comments I shall not be commenting on this fiasco for at least 7 days to give the twists and turns time to settle. It is developing into a them an us scenario, with the media scraping the barrel for every tit bit of "bad press they can find. Reminds me of ... If a person keeps an eye on the past they are wise. If a person keeps 2 eyes on the past they are blind. This applies to all the aspects of this scenario " the one thing the British public want....an end to to the criminally assisted illegal immigrants that arrive by boat, and cost each person earning an honest living over £2 a week" It is help and and combined effort by all that is needed in our democratic society to alleviate the situation. Self glamourization by using terminology that raises bad / evil points of history is not the way forward.
I maybe wrong but I think with it being in the news the last few days, and the nature of last nights show many people watched it out of curiosity, I imagine the BBC think so too, or wouldn’t be bothering to try to persuade him to agree to social media restrictions
I agree with your point about the way forward isn’t to use negative terminology, but neither is it to use inflammatory language like millions are looking to come here, or all immigrants are bad. A cool head is needed not toothless threats to send them all back, when plainly you wouldn’t be able to do it even if you wanted too. I won’t repeat the q’s about the policy on this as you plainly don’t have answers . We need grown ups in government to work out a workable , fair , legal process to process asylum seekers, then we will be able properly to identify those that aren’t eligible and be able to deal with them.
What a week that was / is .. Vaughan found not guilty Gwyneth found not guilty Trump arrest gathers more momentum Alexei Moskalev was given a two-year jail sentence in absentia does a runner then something silly Maxed out council bills arrive to fund waster Marv? Riverside pub in Cheddar selling Cheddar brewed BEER at £3.80p a pint ..... profit most other pubs have it at £2 -£2.30 a pint over cost! I [ we ] normally have 4 pints so pub would effectively make £8 + profit. Actually the one pint sufficed, the hour was passed in decent chat / banter and saved myself some money ...
JGF - had many a snack and meal at the Riverside pub in Cheddar - out in the garden at the back when fine, and inside in the raised corner section of the main bar when not. However, my favourite pub there is the White Hart. Many a delicious meal in the depths of winter sat at the tables behind the central chimney breast with an open log fire. Small cosy pub with a great friendly atmosphere even for some Welshies like us. Used to make regular visits up the road to Langford small animal referral hospital with my dog back then. He had chronic kidney kidney problems but they kept him going for years - marvelous people. The pubs in Cheddar were our regular foodie and watering hole destinations whilst we waited for his treatment before picking him up to go home at the end of the day.
my associate said "new owners" think last one had a system/ card to allow locals non tourist rate x amount cheaper! White hart is our local monthly club meeting place didnt go there yesterday, as although mid afternoon, CARPARK was full and was raining quite hard .... [ showeres that lasted 2-3 mins, but dumped as much as you might get in 20 mins of heavy rain ]
I kno I know times and tastes have changed But It puts it in perspective that out of a population of 70m just how few people now watch Match of the Day ! When you think that Morecambe & Wise Xmas shows used to get something like 10m or more
Much more choice now as well, back then only a few channels, now hundreds of channels, plus streaming, i player etc.
True But with vastly reduced viewing figures like that, I don’t see the need for the BBC to be spending licence payers money of £1.35m on Gary Lineker plus however much the others cost
Neither do I, silly money in my view, most things football are. You can’t blame him though, as likewise you can’t blame the players. It seems he could earn more at others channels, so it’s not like they are paying over the odds.
I don't rate Lineker, I think he is a boring little fart, without the BBC as a platform he would be irrelevat, great striker in his time and entitled to a point of view, I would replace him with Jeff Stelling any day, I think Jeff is brilliant and worth every penny he gets, value for money bloke.
they get around 75m viewers per season / pa [from 2.2m per week / pro rata as viewers] per licence fee this is considerably less maybe just 1. 5m even as low as 1.2m as some homes declare 2 or more viewers! Its a bit like playing the palladium OR the Whitehall theatre both offer similar but 1 is "the charisma" the other "bread and butter" .. BBC is not the Whitehall theatre!
I happen to think Jeff is hugely talented at broadcasting, is a great human being (look what he has done for the mens prostrate cancer cause),Lineker is just a useless fart and if he was not on the BBC nobodty would give a toss, your characteristics may be correct but I maybe a lost cause.
Lineker would cease to be the "prima donna " if he was not on BBC ... TV licence fee revenues in 2021/22 were £3.8 billion which was higher than the 2011/12 figure of £3.6 billion (in cash terms). Total BBC income in 2021/22 was £5.3 billion. TV licence fee revenues accounted for around 71/% of total income. we pensioners [ over 75 ] pay in £435m
FOR SOME the new year starts on 1st January everything just put away for the past year and the outlook turns to the next 365 days [ or leap year! ] FOR ME.. the next year/ new year starts on good Friday! we have a bit of warmth, evening light and drabness of the past 6 month's springs into a burst of Nature regenerating life ..... so far today I have a Brimstone and a Comma butterfly orange and white tailed Bumble bee's and an assortment of Honey bee's small large pale almost Black their target the flowers on the Laurel hedge or a couple of the early flowering plants in the flower garden area ... As I eat my hot cross buns and sip my tea I look back at the past 365 days .. nothing really positive about though an evil imbecile of a dictator sending human beings to their slaughter, hoping to kill more of "them than us" and failing miserably so resorting to toys out of the pram and taking it out on civilians and their abodes because he fares better against unarmed women and children and takes great self gratitude for those targets being destroyed because being a coward this seems to be "wins" 40,000 PLUS ILLEGALS ENTER THE UK ON BOATS, and the do gooders take umbrage at the fact the general population should fund their existence by giving them what a whole lot of the poorer population hasnt. Imagine what £3bn a year could do for our economy for nurses / care homes / agriculture / etc etc £M's spent on legal fee's that are about things in the past, that quite honestly is PC gone mad The latest ..sneaking in by a day or 2 is our King is sucked into events that happened 400 years ago slavery.... and some unknown poet in Bristol comes out with how wrong it was and support for the toppling of statues and likely renaming streets roads houses schools and buildings. OK SO LETS WIPE THE SLATE CLEAN.. and sort out all the other events in the past 3000 years where some one has done something ... I am sure a very very small minority will be able to come up with arguments about 1066 or the Romans or the Picts or the Celts lets get Spain to return all the gold and wealth they stole from South America [ inca's etc ] and brought back to Spain on ships some of which were slave ships that pre dated by 100 years? those that we so called had! A lot of people in the past 365 days have seen and commented on the adverse proportion and also the "making them look silly ADVERTS that smother our TV's newspapers magazines hoardings etc WHISTLE blows stop the game forward just about to shoot into empty net time for a couple players to have a snack????? really! The human race is far from perfect, that is what makes it tick. There must be a base line that is acceptable by all [ usually religion or laws set by the elected ] people do cross it ... when seriously then a punishment should fit the event. Today minorities push the limits to the often bizarre or nit picky ... single individuals like dictators or cult driven heads have their own self indulgence to feast upon no matter whether their following is in the 000,000's or counted on your hands .... we should not be bullied into the Wokism or PC of these individuals ,,, hoping they might go away.... we have started already and the demon just manifests bigger and faster ....... I do hope the next 365 days will be better, and I am here to see them pass~!
Indeed but when you see other BBC salaries such as Katya Adler and Laura Kussenberg both earning close to £250k each, Shearer on £350k, Naga Munchety (who I can’t stand) on a vast salary you can easily see where a lot of money goes It doesn’t seem to be spent on making quality programmes like they used to
I think the salary that Lineker earns from licence payers monies is obscene for what he actually does. Bearing in mind that I doubt whether he has to pay any travel, accommodation, or food costs whenever England play abroad from his £1.35m wage. But then again I also think Shearer is also overpaid at £350k, but Lineker earns 4 times the amount that he does. As for the other BBC presenters and 'experts', whether they are paid the going rate or not I don't know, but there is a vast amount of money involved in all of it.
Jeff is everything Lineker isn't. Jeff is very witty and personable. He is also vastly knowledgeable about all teams and most players, at all levels and in all leagues. Lineker only has to know about the Premiership and England. Not exactly difficult when compared to Jeff.
