thats pretty much what i like too mate, thats because like you say have seen them play so cant compare players of 40-50 years ago the answer to that (imo) is yes, some of the best players around at the time, and it wasnt that long ago, anyone disagree with me? who is better in todays team in corresponding positions than that team. its not a pop at todays team, just i reckon that team would also do well in this years premiership (because its been pretty average to say the least, some really weak squads this year) 22 joe bolton l/b 325 appearances 12 goals
commachio Gordon,Mensah,Gyan and Cattemole would certainly have to be considered, with Henderson,Wellbeck and Meyler also in the frame.???
gyan and wellbeck in place of quinn skp cattermole, henderson and meyler, in place of summerbee, ball and hutchinson mensah in place of bould or ord gordon in place of sorensen football and opinions, but i just dont see it, i think we can agree to disagree on this one especially the midfield 3. the first ninety minutes of a football match are the most important, sir bobby robson
Gotta agree with you, i'd be struggling to swap any of todays team. A fully fit Mensah for Ord i'd swap, and Sessegnon would potentially replace Hutch. Thing with replacing Hutch though, is the fact that the season we had him, he was just collosal, his departure was the beginning of he end of that team, we should have done everything to keep him. What a ****er he was though.
COMMACHIO More than happy to agree to disagree. The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom. It's impossible to compare. Some of the current squad will become club legends and maybe surpass the greats of the past.IMO.
I'm young enough to remember Len Ashurst as a player. He was solid enough but for me Joe Bolton was a far superior footballer. Likewise, a certain Stan Anderson was for me second only to Hurley in being a cornerstone of the Club.
joke why, best in my lifetime, all the rest are from history which i have no right to comment on as i never saw them, maybe there are better and older posters have a right to disagree, but modern times who have you seen better than bally? its only opinions
Reyna, Mensah and Brady would/could have been shoo-in's if it wasn't for dodgy knees, backs and blood circulation. Kieron Brady - sigh....that goal away to Bradford around 1990 - forgotten classic.
