It will only exist in theory whatever the legal structure while Levy represents the majority shareholder. And no Board would ever delegate such wide powers to any individual director.
We might not have been forewarned. But the club knew about the potential for issues before appointing Paratici, should have recognised the gravity of the situation when then Juve board stepped down last year, and are fully aware that Paratici is facing a criminal trial and the potential global ban. Plus the separate investigation around wage payments during Covid. Don’t get me wrong I think the appeal may well be successful because there is no definitive way to value a player. It’s a murky process, that they did, and other clubs are going to hit with it too. But the fact that Spurs have been entirely silent on it, let alone considered a suspension, which would have been entirely justified, is ridiculous. In any other line of work Paratici’s position would have long since been untenable and Levy would be walking his cardboard box out of the building too.
The issue from the club's standpoint is they were led to believe no ultimate decision would be made until April (April 19th, to be precise), so FIFA announcing a worldwide ban with no forewarning when the decision isn't expected for another 3-4 weeks is something that is going to throw any plans into disarray, not least as the likelihood is the club surely have two statements already drafted for April 19th - one for Paratici's appeal being successful, one for Paratici's appeal not being successful Now, should we have stuck Paratici on gardening leave once the story broke? To be safe and/or sure, that's probably what we should have done so that we could save face regardless of the decision (i.e. if the appeal failed we could say he was on gardening leave for a few months and pull the trigger, if he was cleared we likely announce a mutual decision to part ways), instead we half-assed it by moving Paratici away from our January deals (hence a group of intermediaries were handling the Pedro Porro deal, and doing a cack-handed job of it until Levy reportedly had to step in, which buggers up a few dozen Narratives...) yet in spite Paratici being separated from the transfer dealings we also had him working full-time, something which is more obvious given he's reportedly been drawing up a shortlist for Conte's replacement The issue is the ragemongers who keep bleating about Juve's board resigning en masse tend to miss this thing called "nuance", given the minor detail that Juve's board were waist-deep in the dodginess. This does, however, beg an obvious question: you would presume that Paratici would have offered to resign the day the story broke, and yet he doesn't appear to have done this, thus putting the onus on the club to act - which takes us right back to considering sticking him on gardening leave until the appeal
They absolutely should have suspended him pending the outcome of the appeal and the deliberations about the global ban. That they didn’t suggests heads have been deep in the sand, and given the mess of a club we support right now, it’s not even surprising.
In other news, since we're still pawing over the wreckage of the Shenandoah Conte's reign, Gaston Udul claims that Cristian Romero and Richarlsion gave the club an ultimatum that either Conte goes or they do Given Udul is basically the Dan KP/Alasdair Gold of the Argentine NT, there's probably a kernel of truth in this somewhere...although it wouldn't surprise me if the significance has been puffed up given there's engagement in Conte fallout stories, especially when you consider that, while there are players who would have the cache to dictate terms to the board such as Kane, Lloris and Son, and it wouldn't surprise me if Hojbjerg was also on that list given he spoke out about Conte after the Southampton meltdown (while Dier and Davies have tenure, so their voices might have cache), does anyone believe that Romero or especially Richarlison are players who could go to Levy and demand a manager be sacked and be listened to no questions asked?
I understand blindsided, I just don’t see it as blindsided as the Paratici stuff has been simmering away for ages
Actually we need a plan for both outcomes...and sacking or suspending Paratici before we are forced to doesn't seem the right plan for him winning the appeal.
You’ve gotta laugh at Richarlison honestly thinking anyone at this football club, staff or fans, would give a flying toss if he handed in a request to leave, if anything fans would welcome it. What a mess though, club is an absolute laughing stock at the moment. Player revolts, no manager, a banned DoF, a chairman burying his head in the sand, star player yet to commit (and who can blame him?!) and then there’s rumours of a price hike in season tickets - the audacity if that rumour has any substance to it.
And yet, as far as the club were aware, there was no move to extend Paratici's ban until after the appeal until FIFA sprung it out of nowhere
Add to that the probability, what with us being Tottenham, that we sacked Paratici only for his appeal to be successful - and then he tried to sue us for wrongful termination or some **** like that That's likely why we had people other than Paratici working on our January business so there was some distance between him and the Porro transfer - but that does beg the obvious question why, if Paratici was being kept separate from our transfer business, why we didn't stick him on gardening leave just to be sure nothing would blow up in our faces
Richarlison has disputed the story about him and Romero: "Questioning and criticizing me as a player for my performance is part of football and I got it. However, telling lies about me, I don't accept! I’ve always had a lot of respect for Conte and for all my coaches. He helped me a lot in my coming to the Spurs and, whenever we had a problem (even if it was public) we solved it based on conversation and professionalism — and this he can confirm. I wasn't a mutiny leader against him, it was quite the opposite. I'm sorry I didn't deliver as much as he expected of me and I didn't do enough for him to stay. When he left, I sent him a message thanking him for everything and wishing him the best cause that's what he deserves! On the other hand, the journalist responsible for this awful lie did not even do the least which would be talking to my PR or listening to me. Bad professional and bad character! And shame on you, Tyc Sports!" Time will tell.
Why not? There is a twofold built-in failsafe which is that the Investment wing of the business doesn't have to deliver a penny more than £X budget across Y years - and they can allocate this making sure that in the event it is wasted, it won't ruin the club. Secondly, the Chairman of Football is held directly accountable for on pitch success and can be removed from his duties if mutually agreed targets are consistently not met. Under the current model, the Chairman gets blamed by fans for most of not every on pitch target missed, while our annual budget seems to veer wildly and is directly linked to how successful previous spends have been - something Levy himself said to the THST the other month. I really cannot see how the current model is better than the one I'm proposing.
Your logic is fine but the duties of Directors mean the Board will think it too risky to delegate big decisions.
Well, looks like the speculation of a new DoF is already starting Ramon Planes has left his role of Sporting Director at Getafe with immediate effect and is looking for his next project, with us and Betis both linked Let's just say that his CV for the last ten years makes for interesting reading 2009-12: Sporting Director at Espanyol 2014-15: Sporting Director at...wait a minute, Spurs? That's right, he was on Paul Mitchell's team for a hot minute 2015-16: Sporting Director at Elche 2016-17: Sporting Director at Rayo Vallecano 2017-18: Sporting Director at Getafe 2018-20: DoF at Barcelona 2020-21: Sporting Director at Barcelona 2022: was set to be Sporting Director at Athletic Bilbao but the guy pushing for him wasn't elected, so... 2022-3: Football Director at Getafe Going to suggest we look elsewhere, given his track record of bouncing around La Liga every year
If Levy had hired Levy to run the THFC department of the ENIC Sports and Leisure complex he would have sacked him by now
