As a response to the situation at Newcastle, where owner Mike Ashley has decided to rename St James' Park as the Sports Direct Arena to show the appeal of paying for the name to prospective sponsors, I thought I'd see how universal the negative reaction amongst Spurs fans would be to a similar scheme.

How annoyed would you be if we were put in a similar situation?
Would the company name used make much of a difference?
Do you mind any new stadium (NDP, for example) having a sponsored name?
    If not, then why not?

it seems to be the trend now,i suppose it would depend on what name they wanted to call it as to wether i would be annoyed or not

I'd agree completely with that Ensil, but I'm sure that the same is also true of St James' Park.

I wouldn't want White Hart Lane to be changed unless it was being expanded considerably and therefore naming rights would help contribute towards the expansion, but regardless of a name change it'll still be known as WHL by us all.

The same goes for the NDP if that gets built, I can udnerstand that the naming rights will produce a main source of revenue and therefore will understand the decision, but the NDP will be known as WHL I feel anyway.

I'm not even taking into consideration the idea of moving completely out of the area, think it will be a disgrace if that happens.

Well, assuming that we ARE going to move - probably to the Northumberland, whoever happens to be the sponsor at the time can call it whatever they please, so long as they pay handsomely for the privelige. I might have to draw the line at "The Emirates Stadium", though! :D

In this modern world we have to accept that clubs will do this for the all important filthy luca (I don't mean Modric btw) but it is very sad that the history of a club is sold off for short term gain. How long before they start renaming teams for money, it's only the importance of the 'brand' that prevents this. How about sponsered funerals, or naming your children Big Mac for money it's all a bit pathetic.

Ermm, apart from the funerals bit I echo what Spurf said. I have a feeling that selling the naming rights was an integral part of us moving stadium anyway and with all the super rich, classless clubs around we can't afford to be too prinicipled or we'll end up in League 2 before we know it.

Northern Rock United of Newcastle are at home today.
Their local rivals Tombola AFC of Sunderland visit the Sports Direct Arena, hoping to win their first game there since the 1999/2000 season.

You're not doing it justice PNP, it's the Sportsdirect.com/Sale/SunderlandShirts @ St. James Park :D

To compete with long, **** names and also in honour of 'Arry I believe we should go with, "Stade de ... If David Lammy Asks It's A Loft Extension"

Anyone catch the story a couple of days back where Chelsea were saying they'd consider selling the naming rights to Chavford Bridge? Doubtless to one of Gazprom or Sibneft...

Is it wrong that Joey Barton seems to have hit the nail on the head with that comment?
It certainly feels wrong, but I can't refute what he's said.

Blimey!! Are you telling us that Barton is familiar with Oscar Wilde's home spun philosophy, Ensil?

He's quoted Neitzsche, Orwell and Aristotle in other Tweets, NSIS.

"You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star. #Nietzsche"
"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act"

He did Tweet the following to one of the cast of The Only Way Is Essex, though:
"Ur sister still collecting footballers like panini stickers???"

Perhaps he's not an entirely changed character, after all! <laugh>

I follow Joey Barton on Twitter and surprisingly he comes across as quite smart in most of his tweets.

He does like a good row with other 'famous' people though.

He also hates Piers Morgan, so he can't be all bad.

United Chelsea and Pool haven't sold their stadium naming rights...yet. So is it that necessary? I know all of them have debt, but a naming rights deal isn't going to cure that.
