Then you double must win the next.

If you win the 'double must win', you get six points. A bit like an accumulator.

We'd be better off losing the next few and then winning in 3 or 4 games.

    That's how it works?

Serious depression sets in for many, I fear. If PL status is the only reason for supporting a club, then when in the relegation zone, there is only one must win game, and that is the one which makes it mathematically impossible to be relegated in that season, no matter what anyone else does.

The 'Meltdown Default' button is pushed, and normally rational people explode in anger at the state of the club's league position, recruitment policy, seat prices, pie quality and mascot choice. Just another end of season for Saints, really.

This happens every time we lose a game though

Every time we lose a game?
The meltdown starts when the team sheet is announced.

City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Brighton and Liverpool. Let’s assume we get nothing from them.

Leaves 5 matches to get 15 points and reach a total of 38.

I’d say it’s a must win game. If we lose, of course we are not relegated, but it means we have to win one of those tough fixtures, or draw 3. (Along with winning the other ‘easy’ fixtures).

    You’re dam right it’s a must win.

Why assume we get nothing from those 5 games? Win at Chelsea, draw at United, come back from 3-1 down against Spurs. They all sound familiar.

Because it’s more likely that we won’t win or draw. We can’t afford to go into those fixtures needing a result.

If we keep pissing away those ‘easy’ fixture’s then we put ourself in a position where we play strong teams at the tail end of the season and need wins.

The next step is saying “it’s still mathematically possible to stay up”, being dependent on other results.

Of course, it’s possible that we will win all 5. But we don’t really want to be dependent on that do we?

Newcastle aren't in great form, Brighton and Liverpool could well be on the beach by then. I'm assuming nothing.

A lot of us saying same. I hope Moyes hasn’t worked that out. It will make things more difficult.

For my money, we will accumulate sufficient points to avoid the drop. Saints being Saints will get them by means of the usual surprises.

Anyone else reckon Janny B might have faked his injury against Spurs in order to save himself for Poland?

The x-rays showed nothing, and he's put in two full 90 minutes in the week following the game. <laugh>

It beats my conspiracy theory that Sally Sue deliberately crocked him so he didn't have to play alongside him!...

Must admit I was surprised at his super quick recovery to play last Wednesday after looking down & out on the Sunday. Still, providing he puts in a performance this Sunday, no probs.

Sutton and his Oppo both go for a 1 - 1 draw.
    Merson says 2 - 0 Hammers

If Che isn't fit (as seems likely), who are you starting up top?

    Sekou

    Tall Paul

    A.N.Other?

Are we still only able to play a maximum of eleven players? Could we take a player off if we score first to make it harder for the opposition? Just asking for a friend (not Kevin)

I think I’d prefer Sekou, as he’s shown further glimpses recently, and I think deserves another start. He’s an odd one in that he can look both great, and utterly disinterested, but long term he’s got more than TP, for sure. Wouldn’t be averse to TP, would be very averse to Adarma.
