Interesting that Son says that. According to some fans (on here as well as twatter & Facebook) Conte was the reason Son has been ****e this season.
The Dianaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Express are suggesting that a dressing room bustup with Sadio Mane is what has got Nagelsmann on the market So perhaps for the first time in recorded history, there might be a reason to not despise the absolute prick...
Waiting out an appeal process, which will inevitably be lengthy, draining and will involve Fabio spending a lot of his time back in Italy, is just not tenable imo. We should say farewell now and look to bring in a replacement DoF for next season. Hell will freeze over before having Daniel running the football side of things again becomes a good idea.
On second thoughts, how about we pretend that there isn't an investigation into him and carry on as normal, helped in no small part by commentators and pundits all having selective amnesia as to why rival fans might have an issue with us doing so? Well it seems to be the norm for other clubs...
I still need to understand what was meant by the fans when they said Conte’s appointment was ‘Levy’s last chance saloon’ ‘Nowhere to hide’ I’ll see if I can remember a few more gems like this
I can't speak for anyone else but I was very much one of those fans. I stick by what I've said and have repeated it quite a few times over the past few months. I am happy for ENIC to remain the owners until such a time that a better owner comes forward with an appropriate bid. 'Better' here does not include us becoming state-sponsored and/or backed by countries with poor human rights records to become part of a sportswashing campaign. I cannot and will not celebrate success that was gained either unethically or through cheating. I am also happy for Daniel Levy to remain as chairman of an entity I refer to as 'Tottenham Hotspur Holdings and Investments plc.'. I think commercially he is one of the best in the world and has without question vastly improved our finances at a time when the system is hugely rigged against doing this the 'right' (i.e. not cheating) way. I can't think of any other club who has achieved as much as we have in this regard in the world. However, the time has long been and gone for Daniel to remove himself/be removed from even the slightest say in footballing decisions. As I've written elsewhere, this will necessitate the split of the club into the 'Holdings & Investments' wing and a 'sister' division called 'Tottenham Hotspur Football Club'. This will be chaired by what is essentially a DoF with expanded executive powers. In this, Levy's sole executive power should be setting the annual budget for transfers and wages as a single lump sum, as well as setting mutually agreed short and medium-term goals for the Football Club division. If the Footballing Chairman and his/her team choose to spend this all on Adam Traore, so be it. Levy cannot be allowed power of veto unless the season's results are not met. If those targets are continually not met, the Footballing Chairman and his/her team should be relieved of their duties. Conversely, the Holdings and Investments division should be set targets of their own, e.g. delivering x% increase in annual footballing budget across y number of years. If those targets are continually not met, Levy and his team should be relieved of their duties. With Paratici on his way out, this is the perfect opportunity to press 'restart' and implement the vision I've described. The overwhelming majority of Levy's commercial decisions (aside from the furlough fiasco and the awful timing of ticket price announcements) have been hugely successful. By contrast, the overwhelming majority of his sporting decisions have been really really poor. The 'split' model I've described with reciprocal accountability is, to my mind, the only way forward until such a time as a better owner submits a suitable bid.
and when/if this doesn’t happen? protests? Levy out? You see as far as I’m concerned…something needs to give. Levy’s cycle does not/did not start at the appointment of a new manager…his started 23 years ago. He’s at a crossroads and it’s about time judgement came down on him.
Realistically it doesn’t matter if you’re Levy or ENIC in/ out, they’re here until they don’t want to be. No fan outrage or protest will change it. Utd have a substantially larger fanbase than ours, have campaigned since the very first day the Glazers took over and only now, 20 years later, does it look like they might sell the club, with rumours they may only choose a partial sale still quite rife. Ashley owned Toon for about 14 years and for about 8 of those the Toon fans were protesting in the streets against him. So it’ll be the same here with ENIC, they’re only selling when they decide to (or someone makes them an offer they can’t refuse). I’m pretty ambivalent over the ownership, don’t love nor hate them. Wouldn’t be against a change though, might be nice to have a new approach with fresh ideas.
If a million Spurs supporters cough up 2 grand each, ENIC are gone. Are there a million Spurs supporters ?? No ?? Then ... If 100,000 Spurs supporters cough up 20 grand each, ENIC are gone. Are there a 100000 Spurs supporters ?? Well, based on a cursory look at stuff like new WHL attendances, ST waiting list sizes etc, it would appear so. And so on. Eventually we will get to the following question for the likes of Billy : how much can I put you down for in the quest to raise the 2000m quid needed to get rid of ENIC ... ??
Very well argued but I think you have a contradiction. You think ENIC have done very well with the Commercial and Finance side. But you seem to think he has done badly on football matters. But the facts are that the football performance has improved faster than the Commercial performance. When ENIC took over we were definitely one of the front runners financially in those chasing the Sky 4 but we were miles behind on the pitch. As of now we have closed the gap financially but are still only about fifth whereas over the last ten years we have been well above our financial standing in League position on average. So surely Levy is better at footballing matters than commercial ones?
I don't think this is true, from both a financial and a footballing sense. Leeds and Newcastle were regularly above us in the Deloitte table while both them and the likes of Villa, Leicester, Everton, Blackburn and even Bolton regularly finished above us in the league. You've also touched upon a separate important point: Even under Sugar, we regularly feature in the Deloitte top 20. ENIC are yet to get us higher than 9th which granted is a phenomenal achievement; my point is more (as you've said) we weren't exactly paupers when they took over. In fact, I would argue that their greatest accomplishment has been breaking into that top 10 without one or both of rigging the system and having a huge global fanbase with an established reputation of winning major honours. If you look at the top 10 currently, we are pretty much the odd one out in the sense that neither of those conditions applied to us. This said, ENIC's genius has been navigating that phenomenon without leading us to periods of financial ruin, which is precisely what happened to many of the teams listed above (Blackburn, Leeds, Villa, Bolton and now Leicester and Everton too teeter on the brink). It goes without saying that stronger finances is the surest way to stronger footballing results, but that doesn't by extension mean that the person managing the finance should necessarily be the same person running the football. I don't see how that is contradictory. If anything, it is a healthy business model that absolves the head of a £1billion company from any unnecessary distractions.
I don’t think the ‘next time let’s hope we/he gets it right, fingers crossed’ works that is why people want a change…fresh ideas…new direction nothing personal against bald headed men with lots of money you see just because they are not selling doesn’t mean some believe we should just get on board with every string he pulls By not saying zilch suggests nothing is wrong At the very least, he knows people think he’s a clueless clown If that’s all that’s on offer, I’ll take it
Sugar sold up in 2000 and their earlier results aren't listed: https://web.archive.org/web/20030223142341/http://www.footballfinance.co.uk/press/richlist.asp We were 17th. Somehow below Rangers and Leeds, yet above Liverpool. Chelsea are noted as being artificially inflated, unsurprisingly.
I like the model and I agree that the finances have done well. But I don't agree that the football side has done badly. In fact, I think it is arguable that if Levy applied for both jobs in your structure you would conclude that he was suitable for both and it would be easier to find someone outside the club to do the commercial one.
Since the early 50s, think we've pretty much always been in the top 6 in England based on income. It is only in the 60s and now under ENIC that our league position reflects this
