he's a winger from youths pushed into rb to see if it might stick, promoted then really early and then got bee in his bonnet from Welsh manager about playing rather than developing his abilities. he's not a full back and will end up doing well to be a championship player long term. you are right, he's a winger playing rb cos he's not good enough as a winger from the level.
I remember reading that young Ben Doak played the traditional RB role but has/is being pushed further forward because he's also a bit of a goal threat. He's only 5'8" so not going to be the best defensively anyway.
at what age though? he was always a right winger at celtic but they used him briefly as a wing back depending on formations they were using as youths. that's just shuffling around. like we played trent at cm in youths and Jones at lw and back in the day carragher at striker etc etc. Williams is a head down and dribble type winger with a little pace and a decent shot. he was put rb and made a little break through as the opportunity arose. he's never shown much awareness of positions and the space behind him (as bad as trent) some players get the break and some just don't. Williams got a chance to show his worth and took it. fair play to him
he might do ok, but he has a lot of work to do to keep developing and cant afford to miss any milestones. I'd like to get him out of underage football all together personally and get him working towards senior football. he is 17 (just) so IMO now is the time instead of letting him get kicked about at u21 level where refs allow all sorts. the uefa youth league is a good thing for him and he did well there. the u18s is far too easy, the u21s are just cloggers.
Oops. Does he play in defence? What I meant to say was that Ben Doak is the perfect size for any position he wants to play
There's a joke about finding him offensive, not defensive, somewhere as reply to that... But I'm nice and won't make a joke like that. Don't think fullbacks necessarily have to be tall as centre backs to still be effective.
You're right but in a team full of midgets some height would be good. (I hope midget isn't an offensive term)
https://www.thisisanfield.com/2023/...verpool-hold-significant-talks-over-transfer/ Bookies have gone 4/6 that he’s a Liverpool player this summer. I’ve always been an admirer tbh, he’s quality
true, but they will face losing for free in 12 months. In geenral there are a lot of "unreasonable" clubs about in the prem due to their massive massive turnovers that at 80% shared tv money. Brighton thinking that 100mil is reasonable for caicedo for example, the player and agent took the short term money in Feb after failing to secure thier move. that level of idiocy deserves a failed career TBH. Westham thinking they can squeeze more than 100mil out of declan rice and refusing to even talk last summer so this summer they iwll have had a poor season with an under performing player that is probabaly now worth half what he was in thier minds. 60mil? it could happen. The main issue in the prem is there will be an unconstrained non business vanity project that will pay any fee asked. cheslea will price mount out of the market and he will sign a new contract for the 250k he wants imo. Its a rather pointless dance right now.
Chelsea do have a similar sized squad to a roman legion. Some will surely have to move on. Will they pay £250 then he may not even make the champions league squad?
If he had 2 years left this summer would you be happy to snap him up @ £70m ? He’s available so we should go get him if that’s what Klopp wants imo, why let someone else sign him up
