Good Morning We have been linked to a number of young up and coming players lately. I am wondering whether our buying strategy is changing, and whether we are going to invest more on youth development and our academy, like in the good ol days... Dilema time. We have probably all read by now that Newcastle Utd are changing the name of there stadium to 'The Sports direct.com' stadium. If we were offered lets say 6 or 7 million (all of which goes on players transfers), would you change the name of Elland Road ? I'm glad the England players will be able to wear poppies (of sorts) on there bland armbands. The number of fans on the Saints forum (flatmate is a Saints fan) last night against it, or didn't know when the World Wars were, shame on them. Song of the day. The Clash I fought the law. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBeT4ptY9sY
Morning Elland. I thought the song was I fought the law, not war. Anyway, glad to see the players will wear poppies. All we need now is for all of them, Milner included, show some passion & start by singing the National Anthem. Interesting to read Papa Smurf in the YEP & some soul searching discussions on our current position. Really hope this doesn't lead to SG being given the push. Just when we are showing signs of pushing up the table.....
Graysons doing a good job, only other Manager I'd want infront of him is Martin O'Neil, and he's already let us down once. He had already agreed to sign for us, and leave lesta, but changed his mind at the last minute when all the fans turned up at the last home game with banners begging him not to go...
Dont think we will worry about naming rights until the fair spending rule comes in. Then it will be a great way to finance the squad if needed, but it will always remain Elland Road to me & I wish we never break the tradition. Morning all
Morning Bucks, if we knew Grayson had a 10 million pound kitty for players, but Elland Rd had to be changed to the 'papa smurf stadium', what would you do???
Thats a toughy! Well actually its a no brainer. Stick your money up your arse Ken. We have been waiting long enough to see it you egotistical moron
10 mil wont necessarily give you that and once we are up 10 mil is a drop in the ocean I know what your saying though but I would hate the ground to be named after Bates. The uneducated would heap more praise on Ken and he would want his ten mill back either way!
Morning all. Although I'd prefer not to have the ground renamed, would it really be that bad ? Unfortunately in this day and age I think it's inevitable it will happen eventually. But if we got a large wad of cash that helped us get back up what does it matter what company the ground is supposedly named after ? Do you think the Newcastle fans will be saying "Are you off to the Sports Direct stadium on Saturday ?" or would they still say "Are you off to St James' on Saturday ?" It would still be Elland Road to the fans. The address will still be "Elland Road" (unless the sponsors can get the council to change the name of the road as well !). And no company could get the naming rights indefinitely, although I guess once the ball is rolling, the ground name will just keep changing. Just need to make sure it's not sponsored by Durex or something like that.
Purely out ov curiosity (sorry didn't want to ask on the hostile Kuszczak thread) Just wondered who Leeds fans hate the most Fergescum or Uncle Ken!???! N reasons why!!!
Arsenal fans made a big deal out of calling their new stadium 'Ashburton Grove' when it was newly-built as a sort of stance against the naming rights, but they all refer to it as the Emirates now. I think a few years down the line, Newcastle fans will do the same and we would also if Elland Road got renamed. Maybe this makes me a bad fan, but I'd rather see it remain as Elland Road and not have guaranteed automatic promotion. Our club's identity shouldn't be compromised for short-term gain. And Ferguson vs Bates really is a toughie. I'll need some time to think about that one. Probably Bates since he openly lies to Leeds fans and abuses our trust, money and support on a weekly basis. Ferguson might have been a bitter tosser who's helped to ruin football, but he's not personally held back our own club in the same way Bates has.
Why not wickersley. Maybe it'll help us get up!!! It'll scare 'wall fans, as the team might look harder than they do now!!
Thanks Elland! Didn't say it was an easy question! Just interests me to gauge how hated Batesy really is and why! At the risk ov receiving abuse, I'm still very much on the fence on the DeBates! I can see why people get frustrated with the tightness n stadium buildin etc!! but on the flip side how far has flashin the cash got LieChester so far! I'm no business mogul and wud not kno wher to start runnin a football club, so i tend to stay away from the politics of it all! Just been intrigued of late at peoples reactions to certain things! Everyones allowed an opinion but I am baffled at sum statements I've read lately "go contract cancer/aids u chelsea ba.stard" been one of the worst things I've ever read! can that really b warranted!???!
Woodsy, we are a big club, and deserve the OPPORTUNITY to build a big squad and try to give it a go in the Prem. We worked out before that Bates has given us 1.6m to spend in total over the last 4/5 seasons, whereas we have sold Delph 6m, Gradel 1.75m, Schmeichel 1.25m, Woods and Tiako 5m. We were averaging home gates of 30,000, and we are being outspent by 80% of the division. Bates refuses to put his hands in his pocket. Our gates have now dropped below 25,000.
