Carlton Morris was just coming through at the wrong time it always felt to me. He would be about to break through into the team, we got Pukki and he got injured for a season
With hindsight, I so wish we still had Carlton Morris instead of Adam Idah. Though CM did virtually nothing until he moved to Barnsley - now look at him go!
Re. Morris, the fact is that, while consistently "there or thereabouts" he was never consistently "there" -- look at his career record while on our books (which, inter alia, reflects assessments of him over five seasons under Alex Neil and Daniel Farke). He signed for Barnsley with his Norwich contract running down and with little prospect of anything other than a bit part role that season and beyond; he needed a club with a different style of play, and his success since leaving is the proof.
We make judgements about players in absolute terms, as if they have a fixed quality wherever they go. In reality, players (and managers) vary wildly according to how they fit in with a club. Banal thing to say, but football is a team sport and if the style of your team doesn't suit you, you'll be poor. If it does suit you, you'll lperform well.
