Let's assume that both aspects of this are true. He wants to join, but only in the summer. Why would that be true? Does he not think that this squad can play his system or something? Odd.
Telling you that your attempt at an argument has failed at a fundamental level is not deflecting, it's telling you to come up with a better argument Especially when your argument is overlooking ten years worth of data like this... 2022-3: 52 goals (so far) 2021-2: 69 goals 2020-1: 68 goals 2019-20: 61 goals 2018-19: 67 goals 2017-18: 78 goals 2016-17: 86 goals 2015-16: 69 goals 2014-15: 58 goals 2013-14: 54 goals 2012-13: 66 goals So no, suggesting we are scoring an arbitrary number of goals does not prove that Conte is not an overly cautious coach, because what that actually does is point to the fact we're not only vastly behind the pace set by Poch's sides when they were in full swing, but the real question is whether anybody believes that Conte's tactics are capable of scoring the minimum of 17 goals we would need to best the total set in the season where the MouAnon conspiracy theorists were howling "He's not negative, look at the number of goals scored!!!"
The simple reason is the options are either Join now: Walk into a fractured dressing room and be expected to work miracles from Day One Join in the summer: Clean slate I can certainly see a few managers adopting the latter stance, although that would also put Luis Enrique in pole position as he reportedly wants to get back into management PDQ
For Spurs to finish top 4 will require a run of form in April akin to the same time last season. If Conte is not up to it, he needs to say so and quit (compensation can be settled post-season) .
I think he wants out but won’t quit as he wouldn’t get any compensation that way, so lambasting everyone at the club when things are going badly basically helps speed up any decision and allows him to take home a nice wedge.
Again you’re making it a wider subject to fit your agenda My reply was specific to your saying Conte doesn’t have players in the opponents half. Spurs have scored plenty of goals this season so they clearly do have players that attack.
I don’t think the financial side of it comes into it for him. I think he’s happy to manage til the end of the season and then leave when his contract is up but obviously the club are thinking it’s better to get rid now. If I was Conte then I’d want my contract paid in full as he’s happy and willing to stay and that is probably what will happen, then they will have to pay someone else to manage the team until the end of the season. But remember Levy is a financial genius and spunking big money on managers every 18months isn’t his fault
He’s happy to stay because he’s getting paid a small fortune. It’s why he’ll also likely happily be sacked because he’ll still get paid. His demeanour and outbursts are certainly not of someone happy to stay outside of financial reasoning.
As a club we are due to pay Conte until the end of the season regardless, if he were to guide us to 4th he may due a bonus for doing that, as it is so financially beneficial to the club, though he maybe due that for being sacked when are 4th in the league and that maybe another reason for him to be agitating to be sacked now! As for paying another manager too, might that be why we are looking at Mason as he is already on the payroll and so probably the cheapest option. BTW I am not of the opinion that in footballing terms Levy is any sort of genius.
Seriously though, any manager joining now would be mad to do so. They are walking into a dejected, depressed, injury-ridden squad and an increasingly toxic fanbase. There is every chance even the best manager in the world will fail to make top 4 and could preside over multiple disastrous results, the Toon-United-Pool trilogy in April looking like a potential minefield for starters. They'd be on a hiding to nothing, even potentially losing the fanbase between now and the end of the season, being as it is that there is still a chunk of games and still a lot to play for. I certainly wouldn't be tempted to join now, irrespective of financial incentives to do so. It just isn't sensible. Then there is the considerable fact that we have around a thousand players out on loan who I'd probably want to see in action first hand, plus multiple senior players who want to leave the club before my first full season (Lucas, Sanchez and Perisic) and then the small matter of my best player's future being shrouded in ambiguity. Anyone willing to join now fails the fit and proper persons test as far as I'm concerned, as they have shown that they are not of sound mind and judgement.
Redknapp believes he could play a useful role as part of a wider team supporting Mason should the 31-year-old be given the nod until the end of the season. “Yeah of course, I would love that,” Redknapp said. “With a young manager I often think that they don’t use older figures, but I think there is room for older people to go in with them and work with a young manager, even if it was only for a couple of days a week just to be around. They can bounce ideas off you – I think that’s important. “It’s a difficult job and when you’re young it’s important to have someone experienced there with you. It’s a lonely job and you need all the help you can get.” —————————————————— If we’re going down the interim route, then this has to happen. Redknapp aiding Mason might just be a perfect little mix. Modern day coaching from Mason who’s learnt from a number of top managers and the man management and tactics side from ‘Arry. Can’t help but feel that Sonny more than anyone would massively benefit from Redknapp’s style of management. If it worked, then sign them up full time.
Hojbjerg on Conte criticism: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ty-from-conte-after-outburst?CMP=share_btn_tw “I understand that if you want to be successful as a team, you need 11 men who are committed to a project and a culture,” “But I think he has to elaborate on how he feels before you as a player can start measuring and weighing.” Asked if Conte was right to launch his tirade, Højbjerg said: “Fortunately, I am not the one to judge it. If that’s how he sees it, then you have to be a little more precise in order for you as a player to take it to heart. But it is clear that you work with each other every day, you want the best for each other, and you want to be successful together. And sometimes the waves go high in football.” Sounds like he hasn't spoken like this in private and they don't know who he's criticising, to me. Can't say that I'm surprised.
That doesn't actually mean that we are set up to attack though or that we spend most of our time in the opposition half.
We have Harry Kane. Sub him out for someone like Richarlison and you’ll see a monumental difference. Even sub him out for former good strikers at Spurs like Defoe, Keane, Crouch etc and there’d be a significant reduction in goals scored.
I'd expand it out to having a group of good attacking players and a set-piece specialist. Son's having a dreadful season and still has 10 goals. Bentancur and Hojbjerg have 6 and 5, while our other goal threats haven't contributed. Kulusevski, Richarlison and Perisic are all well short of where they should be. I'd also suggest that we've scored a lot when we're forced to attack by going behind. We start sluggishly and defensively, concede and then come alive and get goals. We've conceded 6 more than West Ham and scored 11 more than Man Utd. Newcastle have let in less than half the number of league goals that we have. Our passive, negative, dull football costs us regularly. We look far better when we're on the front foot and playing aggressively.
In principle I’d agree we do have good attacking players but all of them bar one have barely contributed anywhere near enough to qualify as valid reasons for why we’re scoring as many as we are this season. Richarlison for instance has potentially picked up another injury - will we miss him if he’s out for a few games? Not in the slightest and realistically we should never have that opinion on missing players. Bentancur and Hojbjerg do deserve credit as I think the average amount of goals scored by CMs in general is around 3-4. Agree on tactics, they’re beyond a joke.
