Sign of a good season. I've enjoyed (almost) every minute of it. There have been the same annoyances - **** referees, timewasting and cheating - but it's been a superb 1st season in this division after 5 or 6 years of utter durge
Yes the no-talent teams trying to cheat their way through games are still there, but slightly less in the Championship. It is over too soon but will just have to look forward to next season. I'm just hoping Mr Grumpy next to me doesn't renew.
We’ve been that good I’ve now got my football hating missus to come to the hull game, much to the annoyance of her mag mother
Can hardly remember a season where we had the opportunity to blood young players in preparation for the next season. We always seemed to be involved in a promotion or relegation dogfight. Makes a refreshing change
Might see Ellis Taylor and a bit more of Rigg. Zak Johnson highly rated in the 21s as well so he might get some time.
There is a balance to be struck between giving ourselves a chance of getting a result and blooding young players, oh and not destroying their confidence. I do feel however that the supporters have bought into the model of bringing our own players through and are genuinely interested to see what we have in the pipeline
From memory, the only season I can remember was 1988-89 - comfortable mid table in Div 2 having been promoted. Every other season has had drama at the end
I bow to your superior knowledge good sir, it just seems like we are always involved in something at the end of every season
I would be hugely hugely disappointed if he does not do this , and begin to wonder just what he is playing at.
Talking of young players, I have liked what I have seen of Caden Kelly so far. There are a lot of players ahead of him in the mid field pecking order, but he is as good as any of them imho.
The obvious thing to do will be to ease out the two loan lads and play Bennette and Lihadji more. Amad is a hard player to bench though and the supporter in me just wants to enjoy every minute he is with us. I also wonder if there are clauses in the deals about minimum game time. It might be tricky, but if I were Mowbray I would want to play those definitely here next year.
As we will probably have to go back to these big feeder clubs again we cant just drop the likes of Amad and Joffy without it being noticed, and why should we. Easing out as you say is the way, and Its possible to do this without upsetting all concerned. 5 subs to play with is a distinct advantage here and should provide enough scope to keep everyone happy. OaU
Been really baffling that time wasting carry on. You'd think they were away to bloody Real Madrid or something instead of a just promoted young team . Blackburn were third in the league when they came here and played out the second half as if they were winning. Wierd. As for the whingers, I really don't know why they go. They can't enjoy it, seem to be in a state of permanent angst and don't even seem to get chuffed at a goal or a win. They should get to the garden centre or the bowling club for their own sanity.
Be interesting to see what he does. He has said a few times the remit is to grow and develop young players and promotion wasn't mentioned as a target as such. I reckon we will defiantly see more of Rigg from the bench.
If we were seven points from safety, with twenty four points available ... ... would supporters be happy if the manager said 'right we're giving up and hoyng the kids in for some match practice'. It's unlikely we'll go up but much stranger things have happened. Burnley, this month, couldn't beat or score against bottom club Blackpool despite 80% possession. A Sunderland win there and the mood would change completely. There are lots of games such as Millwall - Luton when teams above us will definitely drop points. We always seem to score goals and, as we showed against Luton, we never give up ... ... I don't think we'll give up now and even finishing seventh, in our first season, would give us confidence for the next one. Ha’way the Lads.
A few of us booked up for 2 nights down there, can’t wait. I’ve got my bug back for away games this season. Burnley, Cardiff, WBA and Preston all about sorted.
