We have not got enough 'characters' in the team/squad. I don't want us to be 'nice' and do things the 'proper way'. I want the squad to be full of 'winners'.

Not on that topic but becoming more annoying I’m sick of seeing a City player jump to head an out ball and the oppo player making no effort to jump then our player getting a foul against them . It’s about time the refs spotted this and penalised the real offender the one who makes no attempt to jump - it’s dangerous too

All I’m seeing is him saying how consistent Gavin Ward has been in the 2 games… doesn’t specify whether that’s consistently correct or consistently **** though:1980_boogie_down:

Seri's numbers in his PL season with Fulham under the 3 metrics I mentioned are still better than what Tom has ever done (or as far back as the stats go which is 2009/10) in the Championship or PL. It isn't even close between the 2 either. I don't think I've known a City player to be as overrated as Huddlestone was by the fans in recent times.

Any notion that Tom was better or a level up is just plain wrong. If you want to argue that Livermore was a level above, no worries he was, and there's a decent debate to be had that Meyler was a better midfielder at this level.

I didn't see it at the time so may be bollocks but someone mentioned in the pub after a home game a while ago, I think it was the Reading one in fact, that Tan had gone on the pitch to confront the ref after the final whistle, also mentioned that he'd drunk a fair amount during the game, though I'm not sure how the guy would've known that.

It almost certainly will. It's always felt the FA prepare to fine people instead of addressing the problem which is to come up with a system that produces better referees.

I know we say it every year. But this year I feel that standard is absolutely horrendous, that’s with linesmen as well. I’ve never known so many linesmen at home not know which way to point his flag for throwings, some are basic decisions as well and they look utterly bemused.

It always astonishes me that the FA have never had a scheme worth it's name to encourage ex or retired players to take up the whistle. I don't mean the elite players but lower league or semi-pros who otherwise leave the game and who need work and to earn a living. After all, they know the game, are fit enough and probably are resilient enough not to be intimidated.

Pay a decent wage, train and monitor them, have a progression path.

It seems to me that officiating football has never had any real investment in a game that's swimming in money.

    Crazy.

They have looked absolutely clueless - I sometimes wonder if they are even watching the game

I suspect it's mainly the dosh, a referee in the Championship gets a retainer and then £600 a game if they're the actual referee (rather than an assistant). In the Premier League they get a £40k retainer, then £1,150 a game if they're the actual referee. Even the top ones only get about £70k a year (though this can go up to about £200k a year if you get to the elite level and referee Champions League games, where you get £5,500 a game). It's not much compared to the average wage of even a Championship player.

If you pay peanuts then we all know what you get.

Up the wages, train them properly and introduce professional standards.

It's not like the game can't afford it.
