I`ve seen some comical penalty awards over the years, and that decision today was in my all time top 5 worst penalty decisions ever, was there even any contact? it did not look like there was. 2 points taken away by incompetent officiating. Whether the performance deserved 3 points is irrelevant, all we ask it that the officials do their jobs properly and consistently, of course this will just disappear down the big black hole of referring incompetence, bias and weak officiating.
We're really gonna repeat the JM mistake of throwing away the end of the league season, not give a new manager time to properly assess the squad in competitive matches and then make a farcical appointment aren't we?
Todays farce was outrageous, clearly no contact but they still refuse to overturn it. It probably depends what colour shirt you wear. The on field referee was quicker than John Wayne in giving the pen, how could he be sure it was a foul in a split second, he did not even take a moment to think, he was just making an assumption based on the dive. Useless officiating all round.
I’ve not seen the penalty decision, but by all accounts there may have been slight contact by Sarr on Maitland-Niles when volleying the ball clear. There has to be some tolerance when determining what is a foul. It’s a contact sport; when players are competing closely for the ball, there will be clashes. I hate it when marginal contact or slight mistiming or players being caught out when committed by slight deviations etc are called as fouls, especially when the consequences are disproportionate and as drastic as they were today. What happened to the application of common sense? VAR should be able to carry out an unfettered review of the decision. The ref saw it in real time - how could he be sure if there was contact and whether it was a foul?
r/soccer and Efan Ekoku both hate Spurs, yet both thought it was ridiculous: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/11utoxg/southampton_vs_tottenham_pape_sarr_foul_leading/ Maitland-Niles shouldn't have even been on the pitch, as he blocked a goalbound shot with his hand earlier. Both decisions just stayed with what Stevie Wonder saw on the pitch.
Am on the motorway brining uni kid home...just stopped at a service station to get a coffee. Saw a spurs dad and young son and a spurs fan .... we all nattered for a minute or two... they said it weren't a penalty but weren't angry ... they mainly spoke about our boring football and being out played at the end .. like most of us they are resigned to a wasted season
That's the right attitude Focusing on a bad decision or two deflects from the root cause of the problem: ourselves. Conte and the players are the reason we threw this away. Plain and simple. If this was a one off then we could think differently, but it's not. Not even a two, three, four or five 'off'.
What is the point of VAR it's solves nothing and just makes mistakes worse and it exposes the whole to charges of corruption. Spurs should have had a penalty and Southampton should not. That's two important dubious decisions. I thought the first Southampton goal was offside but nobody else said a word so I assume I missed something there and got it wrong, but in view of the later decisions in the same game I would like to see that goal again. Not that Spurs deserved a win but you don't win in football because you deserve to.
Sadly I get this. We watch Spurs week after week and think how can they be this PASSIVE. I see some pretty passes but I see NO passion except perhaps from Dier & Hojbjerg. I cannot believe Conte watches this week after week and thinks oh right we must work harder. Work harder in the wrong way does not get you to where you want to be. Thinking out the situation and perhaps considering a fresh approach might be better. But what do I know?
It's the manager's job to motivate the players, if he can't do that then he is a waste of space. Not much good having a plan if the players don't carry it out.
I think both the players and Conte are wrong it’s not one or the other both below par from what is expected
We bought about half the team for him, the ****. Who's he blaming? Kane, Son and Dier? It's not his ****ty, negative tactics, honest. Is there anyone that he hasn't blamed yet, apart from himself? We should push the **** off a pier while we're down by the coast.
The reason we have managers is because the players can't do it on their own. If they lack passion (which they seem to) than why are we playing them. Maybe my comment is not fair to the players but who had more passion today? I think it was easy to see that it was Southampton. It was also true of Man United, AC Milan, Wolves, Sheffield United,Leicester,Arsenal,Aston Villa, Brentford, Liverpool, Newcastle, that's a lot of games to lose with a wimper. It defies logic that we are still in 4th place but I think we will be lucky to make 6th.
I got the impression the players were all excited when Conte arrived as where most of us. How do they feel now I wonder.
Its obvious he’s going and he thinks **** it time to throw everyone under the bus and say it as he thinks it is he done this before cant see the players playing for him now even if they were before for the benefit of THFC he will have to go sooner rather than later time to appoint our next **** up
If you want to see an example of 'attitude' just look at the IREENG rugby. England out of sorts all tournament, hammered by France and down to 14, but took the game to Ireland, who in turn just kept going despite never hitting the playing heights and eventually ran out clear winners. That sort of attitude comes from the work of the coaches and the desire of the players. Both sides deserve credit!
