I wholeheartedly agree that that was a mistake and that those who rent are being screwed by landlords. Tories have done nothing to address the issue, wonder if Labour will?

The housing crisis is making life intolerable for a generation of people priced out of the market and forced to rent privately, with no protection and no proper regulation of the sector. This has to be an absolute top priority for the next Labour government. The last one, Blair's, pretty much ducked the issue as far as I can tell. The whole housing sector is a mess. Loads of speculators invested in buy-to-let properties, many of which are mortgaged. The housing shortage means they can charge almost any rent they like, but that doesn’t mean their tenants can pay. So either the DSS pays (they’re less inclined to do that now though) or the tenants live 2 to a room, and even then the whole set up is teetering on the edge of disaster. Interest rates are going up which means the cost of the mortgaged buy-to-let’s are going up, and that gets passed onto the tenants, who already can’t pay. More social housing - council or housing association - is the only answer; the property owning dream has become a nightmare for millions, and even if you do own your home, when you get old you have to sell it to pay for a care home anyway.
How many migrants per year is enough? 1 million ? 5 ? Just concrete over all the green spaces to build a few million social housing complexes with British tax payers money & print money. None of it will get wasted on beurocrats & corrupt councils . The only solution is to build upwards with ugly tower block apartments but that wouldn't scratch the surface of the extra immigrants we have already , we will never keep up with the demand .

As for flag shagging, the EU as I pointed out started out the flag shagging in the mid 80's (it was fine as the common market), so they are no more exempt from it than the English or British nationalists. How Britain Ends: English Nationalism and the Rebirth of Four Nations eBook : Esler, Gavin: Amazon.co.uk: Books English nationalism is the bedrock of Brexit - ironic that it is founded on the issue of sovereignty from Brussels, but is aghast at the idea that NI and Scotland, which voted to remain, could prefer Brussels to London. As you can see, and from many of the advocates of Brexit in prominent positions in the media, as Brexit unfolds as a ghastly morass they're now talking about generations until we see benefits, and **** off NI and Scotland if you can't be bothered waiting for it. Needless to say, they never put that on the side of the bus. Sunlit ENGLISH uplands it is then - eventually. Perhaps.
