    I think they should wear the poppy but Cameron has it wrong when he states that the poppy is "to remember those who have given their lives for our freedom". It's to remember the dead of all sides... it's twats like Cameron who put a jingoistic spin on this that gives some validation to the arsoles at FIFA.

    The prevailling mood of those who saw the suffering in the trenches was not one of 'fighting for freedom' but of surviving the horror where men of all sides were seen as victims of industrialised slaughter.

    My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
    To children ardent for some desperate glory,
    The old Lie; Dulce et
    Decorum est Pro patria mori.

    p.s. I'm sure there will be plenty of people who prefer to ignore the facts and hijack this as some sort of English thing but as someone else has pointed out the Poppy as a symbol was established by an American (who were neutral at the time) a Canadian and a Frenchman.

    Also even if you prefer not to honour the dead of 'the enemy' what about all of the non-English people who died... the more I read from those promoting it as a symbol of English sacrifice the more I start to wonder if there isn't something in the decision after all.

    **** FIFA - **** em all. We should wear the poppy end of:

    They joined for many reasons
    To march, to sail to fly
    They went where they were posted
    But nobody joins to die
    Their leaders talk on TV
    What else could we have done?
    But those leaders lost no daughters
    And none has lost a son
    So heres to all our soldiers
    Whereever they may be
    And heres to all their families
    I raise a glass to thee

    I wear my poppy with pride and out national teams (all of them) should do the same

    I would like the FA to hold a parade of old soldiers around Wembley on Saturday & have a brief memorial to all those that did not come back, be it WW1, Spanish Civil war, WW11, Korea, NI, Falklands, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, invite Blatter & his cronies just to let them know what these people mean to us & our foreign allies, then top it off with the oldest soldier chucking 2 fingers up at the lot of them

    If I should die, think only this of me:
    That there's some corner of a foreign field
    That is for ever England. There shall be
    In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
    A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
    Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
    A body of England's, breathing English air,
    Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

    And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
    A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
    Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
    Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
    And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
    In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

    Just been on the radio news.

    FIFA BACK DOWN.

    Well to a certain extent, we can have a poppy on our armbands.

    Fair enough compromise, the team still gets to show their respect and Blatter saves face.

    Did they? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15666769.stm Cameron and Prince William had to write to Fifa. The FA will never stand up to them. Spineless.

    It's about time that the FA stood up to FIFA !! Blatter should be got shot of now,even if we have to make a charge up to prove him guilty of!The Swiss are only good at making clocks....or,in Blatter's case,cock-ups!

    No chance.
    A close mate was at the highest level in rugby and always says the corruption at the IRB led him to give the game away after commenting about "too many snouts in the trough". He always said they had nothing on FIFA as they were still learning there trade!
    But we live in hope.......
