I see David Icke has thrown his hat in the ring as a replacement.

    ****'s getting real.

I don't think Lineker did much wrong. Some people have deliberately misinterpreted his tweet and taken it to the extreme (which ironically is the same thing they're accusing him of).

Government officials who kicked off were just deflecting which is what they're experts at doing. I don't even think they've put pressure on the BBC on this occasion.

What I do think is that questions about bias in the past has lead to certain BBC execs being over zealous to show their mates that they're taking action.

It doesn't matter who they're attempting to cancel, it's a win for those wanting the death of the BBC. It'll be a sad day of they get their way in my opinion.

It's because it happens the other way round so often. The same side that created the situation in the first place - Twitter pile ons, screeching for cancelling people - now don't like it.

It's 2 sides of the same coin to me. Those on the right who complain about "cancel culture" could take the moral high ground if they actually believed their own argument. But instead they've done the exact same thing in doing all the "woke" and "virtue signalling" ****e that they accuse the left of. They don't hate cancel culture, they just want people who they disagree with to be cancelled rather than people they agree with.

As for Lineker himself, I'm not sure if he's advocated cancelling people before so I can't say if he's brought it on himself or not.

Of course he didn't, if the government and BBC hadn't become hysterical it would've blown over in a couple days.

Lineker didn't write an open letter to the Times or hold a rally in Parliament Square. He didn't systematically attack every aspect of the government or call for sackings ...

.... he posted a Tweet in which, as others have done, he commented about the tone of language from Braverman ffs, people need to grow up.

Those demanding he's sacked are a bit silly tbh.

As I repeatedly say, it's the adversarial nature of modern politics. And it's awful. "If you don't agree with me, you're my enemy. If you believe this, you're evil".

In my experience not that often in real life mate, people are more reasonable than internet warriors who find their opinions challenged.

Most people have more to interest them than carrying on endless, pointless, political arguments ...

... no one ever changes their minds so it's just a bit of fun unless you really believe people are listening and being shown the error of their ways.

I think it’s straight out the standard playbook. Make the issue all about IF Lineker was permitted to tweet what he did and suddenly no one is talking about WHAT he tweeted. Fantastic sleight of hand diverting the focus and taking a lot of the heat out the real issue. You’ve got to hand it to them, it’s been really well done.

I don't see it that way tbh.

Braverman's image hasn't been done any favours and the issue will resurface soon enough ...

... and Braverman's rhetoric will be analysed much more closely.

In the meantime the BBC are showing why I never buy a licence and never will no matter how many times they knock on my door.

"The BBC has found itself at the centre of a fresh storm after it emerged the licence fee could rise by the biggest amount in more than 20 years. Campaigners warned the expected £13 hike will only "strengthen the resolve" of pensioners who have refused to pay since free TV licences were scrapped for most over-75s. It has renewed calls to abolish the annual charge, set by the Government, which critics branded "decades out of date"."

It’s no secret the Tories want to change BBC funding model as first steps to privatisation. Only then can it no longer be held to be politically independent and further right wing ownership and manipulation of the media. Anything that damages the BBC only works in their favour.

    Not returning tonight apparently.

My guess would be they don't yet trust him not to reignite the whole row with a smirking smart arse joke about it.

The model is dying anyway, as all broadcast TV is.
