So was Michut's goal, and both involved good play, both also involved a little tardiness from defenders. Enjoyed the game, once again we were bullied too much, they are a team full of big blokes, but we still showed some great football, especially towards the end when we could have had a penalty, hit the upright and forced a couple of good saves. Don't often comment on refereeing but their second goal, with a competent linesman and referee should have been ruled offside, far too many times we were penalised for challenges / tackles that they got away with, perfect example was the tackle by Ahmedhodzic on Clarke, foul against us, almost identical tackle in virtually the same spot by Gooch on the same guy, given again as a foul against us! No consistency. On the other hand, Hume was lucky to get away with a yellow. Oh and the comment that "09 was poor on the ball", you were watching a different game to most of us and the commentators who thought O'Nien was excellent. Rant over. Looking forward to being at the SOL this weekend.
The rest of the staring 11 isn’t his fault, which seems a bit of a strange thing to say. How about getting someone in there to protect him and he can play to his strengths. A bang average midfield player you say? One who is playing his first season at this level? I’m so glad you can see into the future and confidently predict that a 21 year old will never improve It’s not about red and white specs either, because he has attracted attention elsewhere. You are probably just pissed off that Donald didn’t see it and couldn’t make money from his sale. I have no idea if he will be a world beater or a bang average midfield player, but I am willing to give him more than 30 odd games at a level he is getting used to before writing him off.
Last night's second goal was fine, because its Sheffield United, one of the teams that for some reason, the media have their c**ks in their hands for, so it's fine. Once the Media latch onto someone, that's it. Talksport the other day dropped Newcastles name in when talking about potential leauge winners next season, mentions the usual suspects then one said "Newcastle, don't forget Newcastle", "oh ofcourse, and Newcastle". I thought the standard or Refs in leauge one was a joke, but this lot in the Championship are just as bad. Come to think of it, have we scored a goal this season that could've been questioned, ie foul in the build up, mile offside? Because I'll tell you what, there stacking up against us. Stoke, Coventry very recently.
Every time we play a team and the ref is ****, if they win it’s “he was **** for both teams”. Ignoring the fact that he actually cost them nothing. And cost us a minimum of 1 (but probably 3) points. Not sure what he was **** for them with either. Hume? Maybe could’ve seen red but it was more that the lad was just too quick for him. Their centre half tried to hurt Michut on the touch line. Got the ball, but knew exactly what he was doing with it. But that never happened according to SU fans
Bob,I can't understand why you think that he isn't a young player, learning his craft and his improvement from last season to this...at a higher standard....has been excellent and will continue. It's not his fault that Cory got injured or that he hasn't morphed into a leader yet. This constant criticism of him from you.....largely unjustified in my book....is becoming nothing short of tedious.
He is without doubt my favourite player, and defo MoM, I only wish we could clone him, a team of eleven o' nine's would be something to behold. I find Tony,s hesitancy to bring him back in after his recent suspension, a bit puzzelling and worrying at the same time.
All refs can make mistakes, they're only human. What's sad is how they allow themselves to be intimidated by some teams. How wasn't he embarrassed when the Utd player had a five minute lie down for a bit of cramp. Cramp isn't an injury but it's increasingly used to stop the game ... ... and it's remarkable that no one ever gets it when they're losing.
It was me who thought O9 seemed to struggle in possession but happy for @TopCat_ to take one Just listened to Mogga and couldn't agree more with his post match interview. Luton is going to be another tough one. Hhhaaawwwwaaaaayyyyyyy the lads.
Brighton, Fulham and Brentford all play football and are doing well ... ... we're on the right track imo. Lumpy awkward teams like Sheff Utd will always struggle in the PL.
The fact that the ref was surrounded by at least nine of their players pushing shouting and screaming for "justice" after the incident also asks a question about who was actually refereeing the game. I don't think its all the refs fault tbh., its more like a lack of guidance by those in charge of the game , in this day and age rules to eliminate the organised cheating that goes on in games needs a serious look at by those in overall charge, and the sooner the better imo.
I think if there was any hesitancy it's probably due to them not really being able to define his best position, and trying to use his versatlity to advantage. However,I think, even though he's still only mid twenties, he's grown into being a senior member of this squad, has become a mentor to the younger lads around, which has given him a confidence which wasn't quite there before this season. It's hard to explain, but I think his piggy back, his kiss, his knocking the ball off the pedestal are all signs of a player who has found himself in this current set-up,is loving his career and who will take each game as it comes and adapt to the situation. I love him...he's our new Kevin Ball.
That incident was clearly a yellow card offence, but the Sheffield players cheated by intimidating the inept referee with one intention . . . . to try to have an opponent undeservedly sent off to gain an advantage. In the absence of the possibility of producing yellow cards for all of these cheats, the ref. should automatically give their captain a yellow card 'cos he's the most senior player who is 'in charge' of the rest. If this happened there would be far less cheating like this
Most fans probably just look at Bob and pre hab as Monty clones by now, we should just laugh and agree with them if it makes them happy.
Well,I don't agree with that. I think both @Bob the Mackem and, particularly @Prehab26, have genuine info and opinions they are willing to share. I don't often see either as justified, and I do think they argue a pre-determined agenda sometimes.......but to group them in with Monty, who is a complete and total windup....and not a very good one at that.....is silly.
You're quite right. Sheff Utd seem to be scrapping their way to the PL with various loans and little in the way of forward planning. For owners who can come in, do little in the way of improving infrastructure, facilities, etc, and bluster their way to the PL on the cheap it's a huge reward. Ironically it's more beneficial to go up as sixth place than to win the title.
Aye, well I am silly along with a lot of other fans on here, I find them boring beyond belief. If that’s your opinion that’s fine with me
