David Peach and Nick Holmes scored for us for those oldies. In that time all you got was highlights the following day
*Obligatory Tella post klaxon* Hat trick for our boy Tella tonight. Really pleased for him despite it being a tad frustrating
Ah yes. We’ve bought so many players I can’t remember who came when. Maybe Selles is only playing those who want to be here and are likely to stay in the championship?
Just hoping we don't extend Elyounoussi's contract. Apart from him; JWP, KWP, DCC, Lavia will all certainly be off. So many players I think need a year in the Championship, but unfortunately their agents will get in their heads. The likes of Edozie, Alcaraz, Livramento, ABK, Larios, Sulemana, Onuachu, Mara etc could all be excellent for us down there.
Two cup finals (winning one!) and a promotion in four seasons. Closely followed by probably our best team ever. Must have been a great time to follow the club.
The biggest thing for me is (again) we put in a good performance against a top side and follow it up with a gutless performance in a game we would’ve looked at as a real possibility of getting something from. Also another game where we win and we climb out of danger, was very similar to the Forest game in how it went as well with us dominating the second half but creating **** all. The team either doesn’t care or is full of spineless players
Koemam had some influence. Getting Pelle, Tadic, Mane in that summer. I think it was him, whatever Les Reed would claim. God different it would be know with those guys, even the 2023 versions would be better than what we have now
We just don't have the creativity. It's really what it comes down to. We can't break down defences that play deep. It's not about a lack of passion imo.
I seriously think he is "teacher's pet" as the last 3 managers have played him despite him offering virtually nothing going forward. He is always there with bits of paper or passing on messages to the others players though.
Well those flickering embers were well & truly peed on tonight. We got beat by fairly good but really average side, who gave us a lesson all over the park & on every level.
Totally agree. We always struggle against deep teams. It's why we always look better against good teams, because they don't sit back. If there's space, we're not too bad. If we have to find a way through using quality, we're bloody awful.
That's why Stuey had to start tonight instead of Mo El, we have all seen him do it before and has a good understanding with KWP on the right.
Sulemana certainly has potential. I think he'll become a decent player, but he will always blow hot and cold, like a lot of pace-reliant wingers, because they have to rely on other creative players, and also on the variables that each different opposition defence throws up. He is basically where Tella was last season.
Following on from the above point. I love JWP, but he's not a 'guile' player. He's great with dead balls, and recycling possession, but he's not a killer pass player at all. The closest we have to that are Charly and Lavia, but they both need another season or so (though Lavia won't get that with us, sadly).
Yeah seeing as most games in the Championship, we will be the favoured team, we're going to come up against deep, stubborn defences all the time. I don't think we will need to be playing with two DMs every game like we do in the Prem. Diallo behind Alcaraz and Stuie would be decent enough.
It was. Probably most exciting season was 81/82 the second season of Keegan. He scored about 30 goals and we were top for most of Jan/Feb. Most consistent season was 83/84 when we finished second. What have won the title had we not lost at home to relegated Notts County. Fantastic team with great midfield general of the likes you see no more, nutter of a left back, world class keeper, aged playboy midfielder, two dynamite strikers, one sadly to suffer later in life with a real dehabilitting (typo) health condition. Not sure if it was Motor Neurone, someone will correct me
1. We could have played 10,000 minutes of that match and still not scored. 2. Brentford are very well organised. 3. Brentford also ****house like mad and the referee was buying all of it. 4. I appreciate what Selles has done so far overall, but why Diallo and Elyounoussi today. Also Adams was the one to come off for Onuachu, not Alcaraz.
