It was something like April and there was a mad five minute snow flurry that looked great under the floodlights. I was pulled to pieces on RTG, from people who didn't remember it, but eventually found a mention in a report from the Times of all places. The match sticks in my mind because I was sacked for going. It fell on the night of our managers meeting with the MD and accountant so I was given an ultimatum .... ... Ha’way the Lads
Looked at the weather yday. Looked absolutely brutal. We should carry some confidence from the game on Sunday. Legs maybe heavy as that's the hardest I have seen us work as a unit, covering the first 10-20 mins at full intensity. Score draw from me.
RTB A win of course. Also I would start with the same 11. The blades have been flying, but atm ate worried about the smoggies on their tails. The mutants want us to win. 4 4 2 with Roberts in particular improving his defending. 2 -0 us Gelhardt and Clarke to score
I was there that night and Sabella visited Roker Park was almost signed by us a few weeks later, and another little known fact Big Bazza and Bob Lee helped me out on my honeymoon, .
Thought I was the only one to notice that, we carried Roberts for 80 minutes in that game and its not the first, should really have been subbed .
Great post once again RTB and I would go for the same game and tactics again. and I think Tony will do the same , OaU.
They stayed in the hotel on the bridge in Durham, got a photo in the entrance, i will try to dig it out
Great thread as always, thanks. I am not normally one for adjusting formations to counter the opposition but here I would be tempted. They are really strong in the middle with Norwood Berge and Mcatee. Probably as strong a centre mid as there is in the league to be honest. They also have a left wing back who I have always rated very highly in Max Lowe. Will get up and down all day and puts in great balls. I would be tempted to match up with Hume and Clarke as wing backs and Gooch an extra man in midield. I would try and make it a game about the wing backs. Gelhardt and Ba up front again. Roberts to drop out but could be a brilliant pair of fresh legs after 60 mins. Just a thought, Mowbray will have his own plan and after Sunday I am sure it will be a good one.
That is a great shout, what a lip smacking substitution that could be, Roberts and Amad coming on against tiring legs.
Too long to paste the whole thing on the match day thread , but here is a full report. https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...-6-2-sheff-utd-1979-rokermen-blunt-the-blades
Its a real worry, and that thug of a keeper should be charged with GBH by the club but my real concern is for Cirkin and his well being that has to be the priority.e
