Just so you know Potts I edited your above post because you said start when you meant to put star. I edited it so it didn't cause confusion to Fill the corners in its Freezing when following your instructions.

    Rooster on the match tomorrow

    http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...e-success/article-3238450-detail/article.html

THE Rooster reckons Stoke will be crowing by the end of tomorrow's FA Cup tie against Brighton.

But he warns his old club against complacency because Brighton are top of League One with good reason.

Kevin Russell – Rooster to his fans at the Victoria Ground back in the early 1990s – witnessed Brighton's prowess last month.

He and Darren Ferguson had just returned for their second spell as Peterborough's management team when they were beaten 3-1 by Brighton in their first match back.

"They are a good team and they will give Stoke a game," said Peterborough's 44-year-old assistant boss.

"They will stick to their beliefs of passing it around, whoever they are playing. They will try to keep possession and be patient.

"Elliott Bennett is quick and one of their flair players, but Gus Poyet has also got them playing as a good unit."

Brighton have taken off under Poyet to open up the prospect of Championship football when they move into their new stadium this summer.

"They deserve to be where they are," added Russell, "after getting a few bob into the club and spending a bit.

"Their home form is good because the Withdean Stadium is a hard place to go and get a result. I don't think anyone likes going to that place."

But home advantage will be key tomorrow, he says, as Brighton are exposed to another more famous fortress at the Britannia Stadium.

"I've played under Tony Pulis at Bournemouth, and his coach Mark O'Connor was also a player with me there. They're both decent football lads and now the club is back where it should be.

"I know how organised and how mentally strong Tony is – and players want to play for him and give their all."

Russell's playing CV doesn't just include Stoke, but also features the best part of two years at Brighton as a raw apprentice in the early 1980s.

"One of my dad's friends was a scout for Brighton," he recalled, "and that's how I ended up there instead of my hometown club Portsmouth.

"Brighton were in the top division in those days and reached the FA Cup Final under Jimmy Melia in 1983.

"I remember the day out at Wembley. We drew with Manchester United and then lost the replay, but we should have won the first game because Gordon Smith missed a late chance.

"It was a big football club in those days and they were getting good crowds at the old Goldstone Ground.

"There were some big names there as well, players such as Jimmy Case, Steve Foster, Joe Corrigan and Gary Stevens.

"I played in a couple of testimonials and travelled a bit with the first team, even though I was only 16, but then I had the chance to sign for Portsmouth."

His playing career would eventually feature more than a dozen moves (loan and permanent), but nothing tops his title-winning year at Stoke during the 1993/94 League One campaign under Lou Macari.

Nicknamed Rooster because of a kiss curl earlier in his career, his hair had gone west by the time he began clocking up his 50 appearances for Stoke.

"That was an unbelievable period in my career," he said. "I still look out for Stoke's results because I enjoyed my time there so much.

"If you gave 100 per cent like I did, then the punters gave you 100 per cent backing. They were good, working-class people and I had a fantastic rapport with them.

"It was one of my best seasons, and in one of the best teams I ever played in.

"We were well organised and with a lot of size in the team, while Lou was good because he just told them to get the ball out wide to me and then let me get on with it."

And during the final decade of the Victoria Ground's existence, there were few more exhilarating sights than Russell tearing down the flank, crossing at pace in front of the Boothen End, then waiting to see what havoc Mark Stein and Co could wreak in the box.

"It was a sad day when I left at the end of that season because I didn't have any choice in the matter," he added. "They were great times and every time I go back, I get an unbelievable reception."

    And tomorrow's result?

"Stoke will be too big and strong for Brighton," he said.

But they have to play well, warns the Rooster, and leave nothing to cluck.

    Pulis on the cup

    http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...t-cup-bid/article-3238437-detail/article.html

Thomas Sorensen is the only certain change from last weekend's league team as the Denmark international maintains his place in this season's FA Cup line-up.

"Thomas has all the experience in the world," said Pulis, "and his attitude since losing his place has been first-class. He's a top professional and a top person who deserves this chance back in the team."

Winger Matt Etherington remains a cause for concern as Pulis continues to monitor his recovery from last weekend's hamstring injury.

We HAVE to go for it, if we win this we are 90 minutes away from an FA cup semi-final spot.
Play our strongest side and just win the match Tone, if not then Brighton could make it very difficult for us they have some very good ball playing midfielders and I feel that as always we will have our faces in the mud if we do not show them the respect that they deserve.
    Goarrrn Stoke!

I'd pick Shotton myself Rob and I reckon he will play. I don't think Matty will be risked, he'll be on the bench, Pugh left wing I reckon.

Carew definitely not cup tied then? Even if he isn't it'll be Jonny and Fuller up top I think.

If he does then I won't complain Tom, Shotts has bags of potential and if given the chance in the first team then he will be a very decent player for us, as will Louis Moult but like anything players need time and that is something we never give them enough of, they simply do not get chances to break in to the first team squad and it is a shame.
I personally would prefer it if the majority of players were first team regulars or have played a part this season, I feel that is very important, I stuck young Frodo in central midfield as he's been **** at left back bar the Man City match and a couple of cup matches and he's got a decent touch so would make it in our midfield.
Fuller and Carew up front is a decent partnership and one we simply have to try if Jones is going to carry on being the lazy twat that he seems to give us the impression of.

No wholesale challenges today - Pulis

    http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...e-FA-Cup/article-3243343-detail/article.html?

TONY Pulis says there will only be a couple of changes to his line-up as Stoke roll out their big guns in today's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Brighton.

And he insists those changes cannot possibly weaken his line-up as one of them is a recall for Danish international Thomas Sorensen in goal.

But he is keeping the rest of his plans private, leaving the likes of Ricardo Fuller, Andy Wilkinson, Danny Higginbotham and Jon Walters sweating over their chances of starting at the Britannia this afternoon.

"I will make one or two changes, but nothing wholesale, so that shows how much respect I have for Brighton," said Pulis.

"I will change it around a little bit, but whichever team I pick, I would expect them to have a right go. I'll pick a team that will be very strong."

That leaves the likes of Kenwyne Jones on standby to continue in attack as the big striker seeks a first goal in seven starts.

"He's just joined us and I think it takes time to settle in," said his sympathetic manager.

"He will go up and down and the first year was always going to be difficult – but he will come through.

"He's got all the tools and he'll be ok. It's about adapting and moving with family and that. Some people do it better than others."

Matthew Etherington remains a cause for concern with his week-old hamstring strain and Pulis observed: "He will be a late decision. But if he's fit, he'll play."

Brighton arrive in the Potteries three points clear at the top of League One – and with two games in hand – after losing just four in 28 and after disposing of Woking, FC United of Manchester, Portsmouth and Watford in the FA Cup.

"I've watched a couple of their games lately and they've got some good players," Pulis warned, "so we'll have to be right on it to get a result. If not, it's Brighton who go through."

He warned home fans in an anticipated crowd of around 20,000 that they will have to be patient – even against League One opponents – as Brighton arrive with a pedigree for winning and an appetite for possession football.

"I think they've done brilliantly this season and there's no pressure on them – the pressure is on us.

"We need our fans and we need them to be patient. We've also got to make sure our players' minds are right.

"Brighton have scored more than 50 goals this season and they will cause us problems.

"We've watched Blackpool come up from the lower leagues and do well in the Premier League – and Brighton have the same mentality."

SUPPORTERS have up until 12.30pm today to pick up pre-booked tickets from the main ticket office.

From 1pm they must pick them up from the satellite ticket office at the rear of the Seddon Stand.

Nice words from Poyet about Rory.

    http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/argusgeneralsportsnews/8863937.Brezovan_must_be_brave/?

Delap has been derided as better with his arms than his legs but Poyet warns the Stoke midfielder should not be dismissed as just a one-trick pony "I remember playing against Rory and I think he is a very good player," he said. "The problem is people only see that side of the game. I am sure Tony Pulis doesn't play him just to take throw-ins. That would be like playing with ten men.

“He does other things, because he's a very good player.

He's only famous for his arms thats why! But yeah, he's pretty good, and a valuable asset to the team.
