Also...there are surely some genuine asylum seekers trying to get in via other western countries? The arguement is why don't they stay in the first "safe" country they get too?
Yes some do. I realize that.
There is obviously a massive difference between illegal and genuine asylum seekers.
But when ever any one is moving in a westerly direction they just seem to get passed along to the next country. Unfortunately we are the last in line and have no one to pass them onto and once they are here it's difficult to send them back...
That's obviously why we are sending money to France to help stop that from happening.
But then France would be left with the problem.
    It's a mess.

An interesting viewpoint by someone on tv yesterday. Emphasis should be on the traffickers . They are daily repeating the same crime in the same location. ( albeit the coast is many miles long) and even advertise their services on social media, if immigrants can make contact , surely authorities could get some intelligence on them . He likened it trying to stop all the individual drug users in order to stop the drug top men

We don't like the French and the feeling is mutual. "Traffickers" helping economic migrants to leave French soil and go to Britain is a win win for the French. Why people think the French will give a toss about it is beyond me, and now we are out of the EU they have absolutely no responsibilities to stop it. Taking back control iirc <laugh>

It's alright for the French to push these people to their deaths, of course. Boat sinking, freezing to death, drowning, obliterated by a tanker, who cares as long as we can score a political point.

Cheaper than wasting millions on hotels, lawyers, etc.

We actually need people to work in jobs like fruut/veg farms, hospitals, etc. so it's in our interests to sort things out.

Threatening illegal people with bans, when they're already legally banned might sound good but it's ludicrous.

I might have read this wrong...but are you saying we should let illegals (who are already here) work on fruit/veg farms?

It would depend on how 'illegal' they are tbh.

Not all migrants are evil drug dealing Albanian criminals.

Farmers are crying out for workers and often provide accommodation.

If someone desperate has arrived here.but is happy to work, in low paid jobs, that British people turn their nose up at then I don't have a problem.

The cost of fruit and veg will keep going up if we have to import it or we'll have the kind of shortages we're experiencing now.

If we go down the route of saying illegals without a criminal record are ok to come here then that would only encourage them more.
I'd rather pay more for my fruit and veg tbh.

As I've said, not all asylum seekers or migrants are illegal or criminal or undesirable.
