Not only was he not told that, the BBC supported him publicly previously by telling people he was freelance and his views were nothing to do with the BBC!

Are you really saying similar language wasn’t used in 1930’s Germany?
The policy is clearly not a Nazi party policy, that is nonsense, but the language in the build up to the policy is similar…not the same, but similar. I think anyway.

I just watched Match of the Day and Match of the day 2, and have to say I quite enjoyed it. The only criticism would be they could have made it longer and shown more of each game.

Even not having the commentary was better as you hear the crowd's reaction more, which brought a certain atmosphere to the watching.

It just goes to show how much waffle there is when MOTD is normally 90 minutes but the highlight without all the other stuff was 20 minutes.

Frankly, I would be happy to have a presenter, not Liniker, and do away with all these hangers-on as pundits, who seem to think they are something special.

While I completely take your point about how enjoyable watching highlights are, is this not a case for there being a pure highlights show and a pure analysis show as separate entities? Saying you prefer just watching the highlights is fine, but MOTD as with many other shows (despite what some will claim) are generally enjoyed by people who want analysis and discussion of the games, not purely to watch the highlights. As I pointed out the other day, there's plenty of ways online to just watch the highlights if that's all you want.

As an example, here in Aus I get the EFL Highlights show each Monday evening which runs for about 30 minutes and has the highlights of 10-11 games (depending on if there's a Sunday/Monday game) and it's a good way to catch up on all the other games and see a bit of City on TV which is fun.

Then there's an EPL show called "The Weekend Wrap" which in many ways is quite similar to MOTD - Don Hutchinson and Dion Dublin, or a mix of other pundits - on a couch and they discuss the action, talk about refereeing controversies, talk about the play by play, with roughly 2 minute highlight packages of each game. It runs for a touch over an hour (probably pretty close to the same run time as MOTD) but I usually ignore the highlight packages as I've watched those Sunday and Monday mornings in a set of videos. I'm more interested in listening to and watching the discussion of the games as that's what I'm there for.

I guess like all things everyone is different, I would sooner have less talk and more game time. It would be better if the pundits were changed, I'm not a fan of Liniker, Shearer, Micah Richard's or Jenas, Richard's laugh does my head in.

I would be happy with a pure highlights show and a pure analysis show as separate entities
Some level of analysis on MOTD can be interesting but sometimes they get bogged down with the analysis
when you play football a defence cant cover every player and every space
it's a bit like the discussion about playing around at the back on here
nobody minds a team playing the ball forward from defence
I think there is more criticism when teams play the ball around at the back to stretch the opponents so it is easier to play through them
I've listened to podcasts where they have analysed these tactics and it would appear that the risk of conceding a goal outweighs any benefits
LR seems to have reached the same conclusion recently

Probably the bit where you explained the nature of the show to me. And got it wrong.

    you linked to ONE match
I prefer to watch the highlights together not going to each match and having to see adverts as well

Peter perhaps you missed this question in your haste to answer just about everything else. You were so happy to provide the figures yesterday, got MOTD2s?

I just watched Fulham v Arsenal on MOTD2
It didnt need any commentary for anybody to know how well Arsenal played even in just a few minutes

I've got a question? What would you prefer for a match?
10 minutes of highlights plus 10 minutes of analysis
    or 20 minutes of highlights?

you could also have a 20 minutes analysis show for the people interested

Most football matches have the ball in play for between 50-55 minutes. 20 minutes of highlights is just about half the full match. <laugh>. After they've exhausted all the shots on target, reckon they'd be hard pressed to fill the other 5-10 minutes.
