ptc - I think you are mistaking me for someone else fella because I never backed Keane in fact I was one of the first on 606 to say that he should be sacked. Anyhoo all ancient history now. Just some questions for you - Is the team that Paul Jewell has put (or thrown) together really any better now than the one he inherited from Keane/Magilton? How can you honestly say that after 5 years of constant rebuilding and gelling that we now have a team to be proud of and that this current bad run of results is just a temporary blip? How are we going to be moving forward if we don't achieve a top 10 finish this year bearing in mind that we can't win at home?
You’ve put your finger on it there Spanish! Remember Norwich under Roeder/Gunn: leaky, spineless, disorganised. How long did it take Lambert to sort them out? Not 10 fecken months, that’s for sure. This is my worry about PJ. I like him, I like his ability in the transfer market (at least compared to the last feller), I want him to get us back to the good form we’ve briefly had under his reign on a consistent basis. It’s just that this level of dire incompetence after all this time; his desperate form with Derby; his reputation with fans of his former clubs of being tactically bereft but great with the players and in the transfer market … have we just missed the guys time? When you compare our organisation at Millwall, for example, to Kenny Jacket’s team – it depresses me. As for Bullard, I’m starting to get a bit worried about him as well. He was our best player at Millwall, but wasted in the role he currently has. I think he’ll be fine once the rest of the team start behaving like fellow footballers.
I haven't been overly impressed with him, but he still shows his class in spells. For me he is our best player but when he is deployed as a DM he is a big weakness, he needs to be played higher up the pitch, he just isn't a DM, his passing is over ambitious for a DM which means he losses the ball alot in vunerable positions. His defensive play when we haven't got the ball is terrible aswell. But I would also say he hasn't looked half as fit as he did last season so far.
Perhaps jewelly misses his cushy little number on the panel at SKY Just on Bullard - Yes he is a great player when he is actually being played in the position where he can hurt teams. Where do we play him? As a holding midfielder for **** sake! Andrews should be playing in that position allowing Bullard to play behind the front 2 and spraying the ball around. He hasn't got the legs just like the rest of our Dad's Army midfield.
Sorry JWM didn't see your earlier post and apoligies for putting you in the bracket for a Keane lover(noone would want to be faulsely accused of that)!! I would say we probably have more quality in the team now that we had at anytime under Keane or Magilton, but under Jim we had a better balance of youth and a more balanced side overall, this comes from being able to build a team over time though, something Jewell hasn't had the chance to do yet and IMO he will do eventually but he had to get in players asap to get a squad together because we didn't have a team. I'm not saying this run is a temporary blip, I am saying that finally after 4 years we appear to be going in the right direction(despite the results) and I like what I'm hearing coming out of the club. This year we were always going to go through some pretty horrific runs(although I'm very suprised by some of the hammerings). I'm saying that any manager who came in would be in the same position as Jewell finds himself in. We were/still are in need of rebuilding and I do not blame Jewell for that or feel that any1 else would have done much better, perhaps results wise yes but in terms of rebuilding the club I can now see at least some direction we are heading in. This year I don't really mind where we finish but aslong as i can see signs of improvement I will be encourage, although tbf I would be dissapointed and espect better than a bottom half finish really.
The one point you overlook is that this team, no matter where we end up, will have to be subjected to wholesale changes again next summer. How is this going to help us with the continuity and stability we so desperately need? Yes we were in a terrible mess last season when he came in but he has had a free hand in the summer and what's he done? He's panic bought and brought in players that are too old and mostly crocks. Ingimarsson and Bowyer being prime examples. Is Ellington really any better than we already have? And why does he continue with Leadboots when we all know that he is absolute Cack! Why gamble on a loan deal for a GK that could be gone on 24 hours notice? I could go on and on but I have to say that I am not very satisfied atm and after watching the last few perfomances I don't know where the next points are coming from.
I don't think there will be quite as many change next summer but I think that would happen whatever really anyway. I'm not happy with alot of things at the club atm, but I'm a darn sight more optimistic now than i was this time last year. I think what ever manager was in charge this season would be facing similar problems and it will be a year or so before we have a more settled side with or without Jewell. I just think it would be slightly naive to think things were instantly going to be rosy this year!!
ptc We both want what is best for ITFC I guess after all the broken promises and false dawns over the last few years I simply want to watch a decent standard of football by a team that is proud to wear the shirt and that fights to the end. If we were to lose by the odd goal but gave it everything for 90 mins I would be more satisfied. What I dont accept is abject performances by players that should be doing a lot better. I am sick to death of all the excuses each week. Surely that is not too much to ask for?
So Jimmy Bullard is at it again...................... got a contract and then goes AWOL. Same trick he played at Hull and Fulham . NICE ONE ! JImmy you plonker.
Yawn, dont let the facts get in the way of your gloating. JB didnt exactly go awol. He was just ineffective, like EVERY single other one of his team mates on Saturday. He didnt let the team down but the whole team let the club down.
dem_on, sorry you may be a fair poster but the majority of Hull fans have been on here every week waiting for JB to have a poor game so they can do the whole 'told you so' act No disrepect to Spanish, who you have quoted from, but I wouldn't say JB has been bad this season but he hasnt had a period whereby everything is does comes of, which was happening during his loan here last season. We are also using him in a more defensive role and this side of his game does need to improve but I would say this was more an issue of him being in the wrong role rather than losing form.
