There mustn't be anything else happening in the news for this to have so much coverage.

I agree but regardless of his being an employee or sub contractor i ‘believed’ he is/was breaching impartiality terms of his contract by making these comments based on a vague recollection of him having been reprimanded previously ages back for making non impartial comments.

If has terms requiring impartiality then he should abide by them. If he hasn’t then the BBC are wrong, firstly, in reprimanding him and, secondly, in failing to have impartiality terms in any contract with him.

The BBC should always remain impartial due to its perceived position and potential influence it could have due to that position. I, for one, don’t want a state run propaganda machine sitting in my front room. I’m not saying the BBC is that rather that’s why it’s so important for all the BBC to remain impartial. Lineker can hold whatever views he wants but whilst he holds a position putting him front and centre with the BBC then he should either keep his opinions to himself or leave the BBC.

As an example of apparent position of influence would Lineker have as many social media followers if he hadn’t been on the BBC for so many years? I very much doubt it.

Apparently he has breached his contract so fair enough.

I think the BBC does generally a pretty good job of remaining impartial and reporting news rather than expressing political views. Its noticeable that comments on its lack of impartiality have only come to the fore since the country (and Chippy in particular) moved further to the right. I think the fact that both the left and right complain about its bias show its doing okay.

Its my main source of news, particularly when I am overseas. That may be partly due to the presenters and in particular this one:

It will be funny if everyone finds its more fun without the commentary and pundits. They could also try selecting a fan from each team to do the commentary. I would love to hear @Roland Deschain do it for us. They could have the Samaritans number running across the bottom of the screen at the same time.

I guess it depends on whether you feel challenged by an intelligent woman.

There's something taboo but exciting about having a **** while she reports about the crisis in Afghanistan.

Or, as usual, is a ploy to make the general public look one way whilst something is happening in the other direction
