I think this is where the real problem exists . The BBC News dept do have strict impartiality rules , but I don’t think parts like the sports dept do ( I expect they will very soon ) , also Lineker is a freelancer . He commentates on football for the BBC , and has posted his personal beliefs on social media . personally as things stand IN THIS SPECIFIC INSTANCE I think he is well within his rites to post as he feels , let others have the right to reply . If he has broken any rules , then he will be dealt with accordingly , but as I said I don’t think he has , so the BBC are wrong .

It does sound like he probably wasn't technically breaking any rules due to the nature of the role and his contract but I think the BBC were left with no option but to act. If this was the first time you could say he was naive but this has been a long standing issue and something had to be done, it's not ok to use any position through the BBC as a pulpit from which to cast your political messages. I have no issue with his suspension and probably expulsion. I have zero doubt though that if he'd been agreeing with the governments policies here then he'd still be fronting match of the day tomorrow though and that concerns me a bit. Indeed that is a touch 1930's Germany/ Russia.
People associate Nazi Germany with the Holocaust. No - the asdociation is what the Nazi's did to curb free speech and demonize minorities. The rhetoric from the Government is analogous.
It's the use of language really. He could have easily said "I agree with the gov on this, it's not right that people move here illegally!" Or he could have said "Yeah, send them and their little boats back into the ocean! Who cares if they drown?!" Much like in his opposition, he could have said "Is it really right we send migrants back like this? This policy doesn't feel right with me." Or he could say "The government policy is from 1930s Nazi Germany." He also mass and I mean, mass retweeted left wing rhetoric for like two days; interspersed with football chatter. I don't have an opinion on the migrant bill at all, I have no idea if Lineker is right or wrong in his opinion, but I do think he's got to watch his language and his removal is due to him doubling down and ignoring his warning from the beeb.
Agree with all of that. Irrespective of the politics or whether he technically breached his contract he seems to have forced the Beeb into an untenable position. I don't see where it all goes from here.
He overstepped the mark and lots of voters who are also tax payers don’t want their hard earned money being handed to him to facilitate his bias. I watch MOTD and their presenters on social media to hear about their footballing views. Not to hear them jumping on the virtue signalling bandwagon.
Saw a poll suggesting Labour could be in for a 200 seat majority in the Commons so I wouldn't worry about a Tory dictatorship. However, we are about to be a red one party state for a while, Tony Blair 2.0 about to be elected.
Good I had a much better life under labour... this tory Government had been an absolute disgrace. It won't surprise me if the public votes them to stay in power though.
If he is not breaching his contract or saying something illegal or racist he should be allowed to post what he wants. Why is everyone getting so uptight about it? It’s just one persons opinion that you can agree with, disagree, ignore or take the piss out of him for it.
