I'm talking to fellow Sunderland supporters many of whom are friends or people I've met. It's the Friday night before the Sunderland match and I'm reading the match thread and looking at people's opinions. You're just desperate.
Gary Lineker criticised language that sounded like 1930s Germany. Political language in 1930s Germany was typified by the kind of rhetoric that was designed to create a 'them and us' situation. And yet some of those defending him are trying to create and them and us situation. This kind of adversarial political debate is what created the conditions for extremist regimes to flourish.
By "left wing" I mean someone who has, er, left-wing views. I didn't realise you weren't allowed to be left wing if you'd made yourself a bit of money.
But the answer isn't to take an equally extreme but opposing viewpoint because that is what the creates the conditions in which extremism flourishes. The antidote to extremism is the middle ground, in which reasoned debate can happen.
