Wrighty is a complete hypocrite - anyone who says anything remotely racist he's jumping up and down like a jack in a box - then as soon as Lineker says something equally offensive he downs tools in support of him - what a ****

How is making language comparisons between periods in European history as offensive as racial discrimination?

Isn't what Lineker is criticising exactly that - by extension at least?

Yup, as soon as they all get their feet under the table they're both as bad as eachother. The Blair/Campbell lot absolutely were as guilty over WMD and suppressing dissent in the build up to invading Iraq as Geedubya's bum boys.

Didn't go as far as hounding a sports presenter out for expressing an opinion on a personal platform though.

Julian Clary has tweeted that he won't be presenting MOTD.

The thing is, if they don't get someone credible it's going to look like a farce.

He was dissing Wright over calling out racism and comparing racial discrimination as offensive to comparing government language to 1930s Germany - a decade before the Holocaust that Suella mistakenly equated him to saying.

You'd have thought a prominent secretary of state would at least be aware of history.

They don’t need anybody. Just show the highlights. Do you need someone getting paid a lot of money to explain to you what you have just seen at a City match?

It'll be about as successful as the top gear reboot after Clarkson, Hammond and may left with Chris Evans and the bloke off friends

Oh, I do. The Holocaust was a feature of the 40's. The groundwork was laid in the 30s.

The clue is in what he said - "the language of the 1930's.

That's what he was comparing it to. Not the eventual mass exterminations.

You would think Lineker wouldn’t start accusing someone who is married to a Jew of using Nazi style rhetoric.
The Nazis started murdering Jews in 1941. A decade before that the Weimar Republic were in charge, the Nazis didn’t get into power until 1933.

    Persecution of Jewish people
The following shows how the Nazis treatment of the Jewish people developed during the 1930s.

    1933
    • Jewish people were removed from public office and professions – civil servants, lawyers and teachers were sacked.
    • School lessons were to reflect the view that Jewish people were ‘Untermensch’.

    April Boycott
    Boycott outside a Jewish store

    • On 1 April 1933, a boycott of Jewish shops and other businesses took place.
    • SA officers actively encouraged Germans to avoid entering Jewish places of work.
    • Many Jewish shops were vandalised.

    1935
    • The Nuremberg Laws were introduced at the Nuremberg Rally on 15 September and removed many Jewish rights.
    • Jewish people were denied the right to be German citizens.
    • Marriage and relationships between Jewish people and Germans became illegal.

    1938
    • Jewish people were banned from becoming doctors.
    • Jewish people had to carry identity cards which showed a ‘J’ stamp.
    • Jewish children were denied education and banned from schools.
    • Jewish men had to add ‘Israel to their name, women had to add ‘Sarah’.

    Kristallnacht
    A shop damaged during Kristallnacht

    • On the night of the 9 November 1938 Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues were attacked throughout Germany and Austria.
    • Around 7,500 Jewish shops were damaged or destroyed. 400 synagogues were burned to the ground.
    • Almost 100 Jewish people were killed and 30,000 were sent to concentration camps.

    1939
    • Jewish people were banned from owning businesses.
    • The first ghettos (segregated housing within towns, with a controlled entrance and exit) were opened in Eastern Europe to separate Jewish people from ‘ordinary’ citizens.

    Star of David Emblem
A group of Jews display the Star of David emblem

    • On 23 November, 1939, Jewish people were ordered to wear the Star of David emblem on their clothes. This helped identify them more easily.
The Nazis persecution of the Jewish people meant that many other Germans lived in fear of the Nazis turning on them.

Please highlight which bit is comparable to UK policy at the moment - I gone through it twice and there's none of it - so what Lineker said is offensive, that's why he's gone - clearly Wright and Shearer agree with him

I wouldn't have made the comparison. Think it was unhelpful to his own cause.

But he shouldn't be sacked for it or prevented from saying it.

I'd defend the right of those on the right to express an opinion also in a non professional capacity on a personal account.

We have existing slander/libel laws to deal with anything that is defamatory. Use those to keep personal accounts in check.

Don't worry, I bet the BBC uses his wage to scrap redundancies at local radio stations, or maybe not.

Segregation, demonisation and scapegoating of a particular social group.

I'm frankly amazed you can't see how that comparison could rationally be made - though it probably won't result in the same outcome so was probably a bit dramatic

Who is segregating a particular social group? “Communities” in this country do that themselves.
