I was stopped at the traffic lights on the bridge over the A19 heading into Boldon Colliery. An elderly person was walking on the pavement on the other side of the road. Just as he was walking round the corner a teenager on a scrambling bike drove round and nearly hit him. A second after that a quad bike followed the scrambling bike on the pavement narrowly missing the elderly gentleman. Surely either the dad or mam or another adult know that their kids are going out on these motorised bikes and wonder what they are doing all day. Unfortunately they dont care. Thats one eg of low life winning.

A lot of teenagers get a poor rep just because their that age when the majority go through those years being no bother to anyone, however as in all age groups there are those who are stealing oxygen.
As for parental control and showing an interest in your off spring, well that went out the window in the sixties imo.
I used to deal with scummy parents, then had to deal with their scummy kids and in some cases their young up and coming criminal grandchildren. That's life I suppose.

Unless we reintroduce punishments and deterrents it will only get worse. Most could see years ago that kids and lowlifes would start pushing the boundaries- and it’ll compound more when they breed in their image

Seeing quite alot of this lately. A few weeks ago I was waiting at the lights to turn right onto the northern spier. From the right heading north bound came 2 motorbikes, straight through the red lights, baring in mind there's traffic coming the other way, these two sets of knackers come through the red lights, cars have to hoy the breaks on as they nearly hit them and they just slow down, look into the car with an attitude of "What you gonna f**kin do about it", just this arrogance about them. Then off the went up the bank towards Red House. From the builds of them they weren't kids, just dickheads. Seeing it quite alot, ****ers on bikes going through red lights. It's a case of when one of them are knocked off and killed, they're a Saint, taken too soon, the driver of the car is to blame and there's the predictable reaction that society seem to go to now for most things of the Gofundme page. Bit of a rant there but arrogance pisses me off.

I think it is wrong to think kids are worse these days personally. Some absolute low lifes back in the day as well. No worse in my opinion. I think we all have gold tinted glasses at times, but if we really are honest with ourselves there were just different types of idiots around.

not going to sit and preach as 'my lot' could be a pain at the time...to the original question of are they winning i think they tend to get away with a hell of a lot now.

when we were kids we acted ourselves but knowing there was a copper about to walk around the corner and many a time when he caught you (he always did, he knew all the parents) he would give you a slap under his cape and you never complained as you knew next step was to your door and you certainly did not want your parents being told.

i feel many problems are that the criminals are better looked after, one famous time was a burglar got spotted on a building site and tried to leg it, went over on a pile of bricks and damaged his leg (think it was a break) and the outcome was, he was paid compensation by the company and was let out...he should not have been on the site so in my eyes he should have been punished but even then, there was a local kid who eventually got taken to court, despite many burglaries etc he ended with something like 6 months in jail and obviously was not in that long, there just seems to be no punishment.

Sorry parental control is still alive and kicking in my family
If parents give a good example how to behave they will grow up to be a good teenager
And then to be good parents

Every generation thinks it was better back then, but the truth is, it's perpetual, constant. You watch any film on YouTube from let's say the 70s and 80s and there's always an older woman saying how it was better in her day, dare not walk the streets today, kids have no respect etc. I work in management, and what I've noticed is that alot, not all of the 16,17 even 18 yearolds that come thought the door for work is their social skills are pretty much no existent, ironically Social media is a big part of it, they live through their screens and rarely lift their heads up. Ask them a question and engage them in conversation and they simply can't do it, yet stick them on a console at 3am and they can chat no bother with their "mates" in Florida while defusing a hostage situation on COD. Like I say, some not all and I'm digressing from the main point here, however my point is, because of the world we "live in today", parents probably prefer young Zak to be on his PS5 at home safe, rather than the alternative. But aye.

    E-scooter rider, 14, sentenced over woman's death
The 71-year-old grandmother died six days later in hospital.
At Nottingham Youth Court on Wednesday, he was handed a 12-month referral order. Police say Mrs Davis is thought to be the first pedestrian to die in an e-scooter collision in the UK.
The teenager had admitted causing death by driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured at a hearing in February.
The boy was also disqualified from driving for five years.
Both of his parents have been given a six-month parenting order and ordered to pay the prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £26.
District Judge Leo Pyle said: "Pavements are for pedestrians and people in wheelchairs or infants in prams. They are supposed to be free of vehicles of any type.

They ride around the burn area near Brockley Whins metro station. It’s only a matter of time before someone is knocked down.

The Greek Philosopher, Socrates, who died 399 BC seems to have been a man well ahead of his time.

One of the quotes attributed to him is ----

"Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers."

Or, he could just have been a grumpy old sod.

Personally I think that the vast majority of Kids are OK.
They care more about things, like The Environment, and the evils of Racism, than my generation ever considered.
And they mostly do it with little help from Parents as both of them are working very hard to acquire the material essentials that our Society now considers to be life enhancing.

This all day. I've said a few bits but I always say some not all. Where I work, I've seen some of the most laziest 18 year olds in my life, and some of the most hard working 18 yearolds in my life.

As a born in the 80s, raised in the 90s kid, a few lads I talk to my age have said a few times "Can you imagine if there were camera phones back we were doing our thing in the 90s"? I can honestly say I never brought trouble to the door, I had my moments, but me Dad would just give me a look and I new I had to pack in.
