No way we're getting top 4 in our current state of mind. Only option is to change the state of mind. Conte has repeatedly shown he can't do it. Whether the squad is good enough is irrelevant at the point where you can't change the squad. Change the manager and if we lose every match 4-3 at least we *tried*. This is slow death. But the squad isn't as bad as everyone is saying. We beat Citeh deservedly. It was not a fluke. The performance is in there with the existing players. A great manager can get the most out of the resources they have. Should we have more and better players? I say again, it's irrelevant to where we stand today and what we are aiming for *this season*. People have already given up but we have some big games still to play. People assume Pool will overtake us but we have to play them still. If we can beat Citeh we can certainly beat them. But not with Conte in charge.
I think top four is gone for us. Our players are shot thanks to Conte and teams around us have momentum, including a seemingly resurgent Liverpool who on paper were expected to challenge at the top again. As for us, we’ve never really fully utilised the status of being a CL club anyway so it’s not something I’m really bothered about anymore. We’ve only ever really signed one genuine elite player in their prime in our 6 or 7 times in Europe’s elite competition and that was van der Vaart, which itself was a freakish deal after his Bayern move collapsed 24 hours prior so we got him for a knockdown price on deadline day. Other than that it’s been aging stars or wasting huge money on dross, the latter has largely contributed to the likes of Kane, Son, Lloris, Vertonghen etc wasting their best years with us as barring a few years, they’ve had to play alongside some woeful excuses for footballers A hard reset is on its way, when it could’ve/ should’ve been avoidable with smarter planning. It’s the joys of being a Spurs fan, Trebs
I am as fed up as anyone currently and last night was absolutely awful, but what do we really gain by sacking Conte whilst top 4 remains a 'possibility'. We are now in an environment that Conte thrives in 1 game a week for about 10 weeks, we are in a better position than we were 12 months ago and our run in is not awful. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that we finish 4th again, so do we want 4th under Conte and the possibility that both he and Kane stay, so stick or twist? Me, I would despite my arguments for keeping him get rid and probably give the job short term to Mason, in the hope that he picks players in their best positions and keeps us in Europe for next year possibly champions league , but at least Europa, but just changing manager again is in my opinion probably going to leave us in the same position again in a maximum of 2 years, we are in a rinse and repeat cycle that needs new ideas upstairs.
I thought this was last chance saloon for Levy? That’s what I was reading at the time of Conte’s appointment. Ok the next one is the last chance saloon then I take it Bring Poch back and he can finish off his unfinished business because half his squad is still here ****ing joke club
yup Heard it all before…like I’ve just posted above another last chance saloon for Levy…the lucky bastard has a saloon with a revolving door on it, it seems.
Without Kane and a declining Lloris and Son, there’s definitely the feeling of a reset ahead for me. That’s the three players who over various periods have bailed this club out more times than I care to remember.
I wouldn’t even give it to Mason. I’d get a permanent guy in right now, let him have the end of season to work with the players and that way he can assess who he wants and doesn’t want in the summer. Hiring whoever at the end of the season they’ll only have pre-season to make a judgement call on some and seeing as pre-season matches are often against inferior sides, most players can look capable and give the impression they have a future. Richarlison for instance would probably score a goal, Dier will help keep a clean sheet, Sessegnon might make one successful cross.
we beat City so that means we have a good squad? but we lose to Sheffield Utd, can’t score in over 180 mins against an average Milan and lost our 9th league game on Saturday and that means? 4-3 is not a better loss than a 1-0 loss…they both raise the same questions once the fans have lauded the 3 goals in the pub post match same result…close but no cigar as usual….but at least we’ve got a few goals to chat about in the pub….however the ultimate debate would still remain the same….how do we turn the narrow losses to wins…..that brings us to the bigger picture of club management and a different conversation.
The way the fan base behaves as a collective, I’m surprised we’re not pining for Scott Parker to take the hot seat regardless of the fact that he’s mega ****ing **** He used to get stuck in a bit tho didn’t he…at least he loves the club blah blah Ryan Mason is **** too
Ryan Mason is Spurs but I don’t want him managing yet. Conte needs to go now as he’s toxic and will harm our chances of too 4. I don’t want Poch. Have people forgotten why he was sacked previously? Don’t want Tuchel as he plays a similar system to Conte. My 11 year old said he could easily manage Spurs but I have him up the chimneys for work. So he’s not available. Whoever our next manager is, he needs to sign a contract adhering to play the team in accordance with our motto.
That's likely to be a decline, rather than a reset. It could be a really significant one...the one that leads to a reset...but with the coach and DoF leaving by the summer, all I can see is the usual panic and poor shopping. The reset comes when football outranks everything else...and we ain't there yet.
I can live with that, IF Conte then tells us the play of the : - final third of last season (which was comparable in performance to the final top 2) - first month of this season (which saw Spurs go +8 pts on the "season compass" ) 1. was a fluke and not by his design 2. and all the Spurs football seen since then is exactly how he intended his teams to play once he got a full pre-season
Absolute joke appointing Conte, whose PL: legend appears to be based on not having to play 8 games in UEFA land in 2016-17.
Yesterday, it was reported that we will know Paratici's fate in Italy in the next 30 days. I just can't see enough sense in making a permanent appointment with him involved, nor without the new DoF identified (if not appointed), if there is to be one. So, it's a temp or muddle on with Conte until Paratici's future is clearer. Neither sound particularly appealing. If I was Levy, I'd take some senior player soundings. If Hugo, HK, Hojbjerg and Davies think it's time for Conte to go, he should be gone...
TBH we probably need a wider pool of players Hugo and Kane are obviously players we need to sound out given they're our captain and vice captain, Davies makes sense as he's been here long enough and Hojbjerg is a good shout - but I'd definitely add Son and Dier to the list, Son for his status and Dier for his tenure On the other hand, no need to add Richy, he made his opinions pretty plain last night...
