I don’t think we’re done, I know Leicester fans who think they’re getting dragged in, forest fans who think they’ve used all their luck up, Everton fans who think they’re toast. Brighton are a good side, but it’s football. The difference between winning and losing on any given day is who’s strikers hit the target. For all the ‘only stat that counts is points’ comments are true, the reality is we’ve been creating as many chances as we offer up consistently all season. Whilst the past may be a good predictor for the future… All professional footballers will score eventually if chances are created for them… even our lot. Why not against Brighton this weekend.
Except we’ve only won five games out of twenty five, same number as Everton and Bournemouth, Leicester have won more, Forest have won more, even bloody Southampton have more wins.
To add to that, I think it’s common for sides that are struggling to look at results and wonder if they’ll ever turn… For Leeds you can add to that: - the natural sense of doom and gloom that pervades Leeds fans after years of mysery. - - the post bielsa blues - we played lovely football, got promoted under him… now it’s all going Pete Tong it makes it seem worse When I speak to fans of other clubs, they almost always say when they’ve seen us they thought we looked a decent side and enjoyed watching us play. I hear them saying we were unlucky. The rest of the world doesn’t necessarily think that we’ve been sh*t and played terrible football. Sure they don’t watch us as much as we do, they don’t get exasperated by seeing the same mistakes happen every week. I get that, but we’re not as bad as most of our fans think, in my opinion.
So those sides are struggling for wins too. And we’ve had more opportunities to win more games than all of those sides… and haven’t obviously. So if we continue to have opportunities to win games then sometime our shots have to go in, and the opposition will miss. No? But that’s the point, I keep hearing our forwards are great and we have a midtable squad… the reality is we’re midtable at everything except the two things that count… kicking it in the net… and keeping it out of our net. So if people are right and the players are good enough, then the goals will come. If the players aren’t good enough? Well hey we all know it’s all marsch’s fault anyway.
So my question is this. Twenty five games in meaning we’ve played everyone once and some of them twice. What makes us think we can suddenly change our form in less than half a season?
Depends on whether you think of form as purely results based or performance based. But most fans think our troubles were down to poor management - the manager has gone and the new guy has barely unpacked his bags yet. Loads of room for optimism surely?
Son just sent me this ..... please log in to view this image To the non-maths chaps, this is the square root of 49, which of course equals 7.
Big fan of what Brighton have achieved but can you imagine the derision of our own fans if we signed Danny Welbeck to kick the ball into the net thingy? Jeez, our board would need hanging
But that’s incorrect too as some of those 7 changes were players returning from injury, I’d hardly call Mitrovic a non first team player, he was one of those 7 changes. Solomon is another you could argue about, he kept his place in the team against Brentford. We had Bamford on the bench, previously a regular starter, Wober rested for Kristensen, Harrison had been a regular starter dropped, Sinisterra injured, Cooper injured, Aaronson started against Chelsea so was he rested against Fulham Both Fulham and Leeds fielded a strong starting 11 neither were guilty of fielding a weak team New coach and three big money January signings, Firpo looking better than Struijk at LB, Wober making the defence more solid. Basically have we a stronger squad now than we did at the start of the season
But you have to back that up with a load of xg and yg stuff or you can’t expect to be taken seriously
I didn't think we'd beat Liverpool. We are at home, so it's gives us a chance so yes I think we can beat them..
