He's not a one trick pony though.

And tbh we've had plenty of top players initially labelled one trick ponies who are anything but, and go on to become some of the best in the world... ironically usually on that right wing lol.

Let's see who the better signing is in time to come.

oh don't get me wrong i don't think Gakpo is likely to become some superstar but i really don't see why so many of you rate Antony but tbf only time will tell .

True. He’s able to dive. He can cut inside on his left foot and he can do 360 spins with the ball before kicking the ball out of play <whistle>

In all seriousness, United fans didn’t want gakpo and club prob didn’t move for him cos they needed a CF more than a left winger with Garnacho and rashford on the left which is perfectly sensible.

Irony is we’ve signed gakpo, played him CF in a deep role which would have been perfect for United to then link up with rashford and Antony. Instead they loaned Woughurst cos his stats say he pressed a lot at Burnley when they don’t have the ball… problem js when United do have the ball which on average is more than the opposition, guy looks like the championship standard that he is, hence why went to Burnley and not anyone better.

No it wouldn't, for two reasons. Firstly I don't think Gakpo is proving himself to play in that position for you, and he's nowhere near the level to pull it off for us. Secondly, Weghorst is a loan stopgap and neither him nor Gakpo would be a long term CF for us in that position. We need a proper No.9 and that will happen in the summer.

He’s played it very well for us. If for some reason our standards don’t meet the loft ambitions of united then fair enough.

A proper number 9? Like Lukaku, or Ronaldo or Haaland? Feel like you don’t need (and ETH doesn’t want) a type like that at all. Given you’ve got wide players cutting inside you need someone that’s going to link up with them. Unless you’re going to start playing proper wingers to get to the line and cross balls into the box.

I keep wondering if you guys will go in for Kane
Who - I believe could do a job for either one of us

No what I'm saying is Gakpo is no Harry Kane and never will be, which is the role you're talking about and which Kane can play well as much as he can as a CF. That's the kind of player I'd like but they're few and far between, and Gakpo aint one of them.

Alternative as a No.9 like Toney or Osimhen would be fine. The fact our wide players are cutting in atm is because we don't have a CF. Ten Hag is getting the best out of the players we have whilst lacking in key positions. A striker being one of them.

I posted above before reading your post. He'd be ideal for us, but only negative about Kane is his age. If as I suspect Ten Hag is looking to build a fresh team which will grow together, Kane would only be a 2 year option. I have no doubt he'd be phenomenal for those 2 years but then we'll be looking for someone else.

So because Gakpo isn’t Kane (who has been the best central striker in the prem for the last 5 years in terms of consistency) he’s not good enough? Good luck finding someone who can be a playmaker and still score 20 league goals a season from CF role unless you’re going to spend 100m plus on Kane.

Would be a RVP type signing. Difference was ferguson knew he was ****ing off and wanted a here and now signing to go win the prem and had the rest of the team to possibly do that.

ETH doesn’t, so Kane may make more competitive but prob not enough to win major trophies as you still need a right winger, a new RB and CB and 2 new midfielders to get close to City.

Kane is a CF first and foremost as much as he is a player who can drop deep and link up. Gakpo is a winger who's been pushed forward. Granted he did well to bag a couple today but hasn't shown enough to suggest he can play that role to a high enough standard. That's why he's not good enough. I'd love a player like Kane, but Gakpo aint it. So it will likely be a No. 9 but I've no doubt a proper No.9 in the system we're playing will score loads.

    he's really not mate.

it's not that gakpo is going to do whatever either.

it's that you should be able to see though a showboater like that all day every day.

wasn't it him that half tracked gakpo for his second goal. stopped after trying a sneak foul cutting across and left gakpo run on.

showboaters who fancy themselves always end up the same way.

I'll stick with gakpo was klopps idea to replace fimino cos he looks like he's got the work ethic to give it a go.

same for fernades. I've see a lot of teams take a ****ing reaming but I have never ever seen a player wanting to be subbed and having a sulk when he wasn't. certainly never a captain. oh I'm sure I've seen a few faked injuries but this one takes the cake.

martinez kicking people. mctominay lifting the leg trying to hurt someone, even Shaw trying to get someone sent off.. that I can understand. it shows they cared they were being bent over and dry humped.

the real story here is after that 2nd goal utd stopped chasing back. there was 3 and 4 of ours against 2 at times and man utd need to look at the midfield there.

So you think Antony, Dalot/AWB, Fred/Mctom and Maguire/lindeloff are good enough to be challenging for a title?

    yeah see.. theres the problem.

    gakpo ain't a 9. never will be. klopp doesn't want a 9. he's got one playing lw.

klopp wants a firmino false 9 to get salah and nunez running in to space gakpo vacates.

there's not a thing wrong with you having rashford. you are playing a useless lump on loan at 9 and a showboater at rw when you've a good kid on the bench.

the fact is a top top 9 these days looks are rare as hen's teeth. the young lad at Brighton looks a smarter option for someone eventually

Except Gakpo has played better for us centrally where he can come deep, get the ball on the turn and move forward with it. Wouldn’t expect opposition fan to have watched most of our games to know how well players have played though tbf
