The 90/10 split does seem very imbalanced. The woman paid the mortgage on her own for 13 years and 8 years together with her ex, so an 80/20 split would seem nearer the mark.
Not the point squiggy, Think back to the Ray Parlour divorce. His wife not only got more than half his estate but also a share of his future earnings and the bitch took half his medals. The divorce courts in this country still favour women and the so called equal rights groups are remarkably quiet on the issue.
But he reckons he paid all of it and did the place up during those 8 years. Depending on the type of mortgage, 40% would have been a good deal, any less than 25% you'd be disappointed. But the devil's in the detail with stuff like this - we don't know why they split up, their relative earning potentials, the previous and current condition of the property, the situation with their kids, etc. You'd think that two civilised adults would be able to agree a percentage out of court though, wouldn't you? He was only looking for 25%!
IF mortgage payments were a static "x" over the years then: He paid: 8 * x/2 = 4x She paid: 8* x/2 + 13x = 17x His share: 4/21 * 100 = 19% Her share: 17/21 * 100 = 81% So yes, pretty much spot on.
My unmarried partner has forgone a career to stay at home and mind our children while I've been galevanting off-shore trying to earn money for the family. If we were to split she should be due at least 50% of my assets, although I'd probably give her 100% of the family home. A bloke has the opportunity to continue to earn money and rebuild, a single woman with children has much less opportunity to do so.
And, of course, the mother gets the children and fathers are lucky to see their kids on the weekend. Yet more sexism.
It is unfair. I got financially raped and our divirce was amicable. I'd hate to be involved in a messy one if that was amicable. <sob>
I'm talking about in general. Where are the equal rights groups campaigning for father's rights? How does that saying go about all are born equal but...?
