I think the RBR is the best car and Max has pole, but their advantage isn't that great. Going to be interesting to see how FFP and the wind-tunnel 'budget' affect car development over the season.
verstappen gets s2 right. missed an apex before. 1:29. 708 not as bad as i thought. perez 1:29.846 ferrari's 0.3 seconds behind. alonso in 5th. Aston missing a rear gunner in fight with mercs. Now lets see racing. Ferrari chews up its tyres so this should be a procession by rights but 3rd place is going to be interesting.
sky report they "saved the tyres" more ferrari bullshit lies imo. sorry farrari but come on, you don't send 1 to improve and leave the other to go form 2nd to 3rd. le clerc had more time available in S1.
A bit anticlimactic after how practice and Q1/Q2 were looking, but still better than things seemed after testing. With Lerclec not getting his second run and a scruffy lap from Alonso, i don't think RBR are that far clear of the field
Still disappointed Leclerc decided not go for a second run. Surely has cost him at least 2nd, and with the gap so close why not go for pole?
Will have to see what the race brings.. but, doesn't look great at the top. On the bright side. IndyCar starts up again this weekend too.
Don't believe it either. If they only had the tyres for one run, they'd still do that run a little latter to get a better track. Like Aston Martin and Mercedes did
Red Bull starting the season ahead as we thought, but the good news is they haven’t smashed everyone by miles, especially over a 90 second lap too. Alonso race pace and tyre whispering the one to watch - could a one stop medium-hard be done?
Only ominous thing is Checo saying they’ve set the car up for the race. Jesus. Perez to be fair sticking with Max well so far- be interesting if they get a bit fiesty given last years well publicised fall out!
I expected 1:29.5 they only got to 29.7 there's not an awful lot of set up for the race there. it's all about tyres now. if ferrari are going to eat the tyres on high fuel load then red bull will just drive away. the interesting thing is all weekend Aston match red bull til the real engine difference is delivered. it'll be interesting to see that merc over the race distance.
Yes- I think the relative step up that Honda and Ferrari teams showed in quali was massive. Haas were mega, Ferrari were mega, Red Bull were mega- whereas Aston and Merc just didn’t quite have the same magic mode. Would be interesting to see the telemetry. I’d have thought Aston likely have a little better race setup than Mercedes and in particular Ferrari having looked so nice with traction and not having to really be on the ragged edge to find speed, and tyre wear was good in testing and FP2.
Almost race time folks- enjoy and let’s see where the land lies in the early stages of the season. things to watch: Ferrari tyre deg, Perez getting elbows out Alonso strategy
